Hello, this is my first post on this website!

My cat Titch (see my profile picture) had a biopsy of a lump on her paw and we found out on Saturday that it's cancerous. As a result of this, Titch will be having an amputation of her whole leg

I sat in the waiting room at the vets when Mum took Titch in and so I found out about her having cancer after a long wait.

The thing is, I'm scared that I'm going to loose her. It's been keeping me up at night because I am crying so much, my cat is my baby and I love her but the vet said age is not on her side as she's 16 and I've had her since I was little (I'm 19 now) and euthanasia would have been a good option, Mum said no to this as apart from the cancer in her foot she's okay.

Now the thing I'm most worried about is Titch not waking up from the anesthetic, as I said she's 16 and I've heard stories about cats younger than Titch not doing well.

I start back at College today (Monday) and her operation is on Wednesday, how can I keep my mind off the thoughts that my baby may not make it?

I actually cried writing this so it shows how emotional I can get.

Please help with any advice.

This is the problem of love.  You can't love deeply and not worry.  Best thing to do is keep busy to minimize your time dwelling on what you cannot control, and don't feel guilty when you give yourself permission to work on something else besides worrying (like your schoolwork). I hope she does well. I love deeply too, and I sincerely empathize with you. All the best to you and little Titch.

We all worry about things like this, no matter their age
.  It's just a fact of life.  You wouldn't be a good cat mama if you didn't.  But since there is nothing you can do but wait and see what happens, then you were given excellent advise to just try to keep busy and hope for the best.  There is no reason not to think things will work out well, especially if she is in good health other than this foot cancer.  Many cats are put under anesthesia for dental work at her age or even older and do just fine.  If for some reason she doesn't come out of it, then you will at least have the comfort in knowing that she didn't suffer in her last moments.

You must remember that no one can guarantee you that everything will turn out okay, but your Vet should take all necessary precautions (pre blood work, monitor her blood pressure etc,) just like with humans, to ensure she comes out of it with flying colors.

for a fast recovery and that she quickly adapts to three legs.
