I've lurked around here for a while, but finally decided to join.

Over the course of my life I've had a lot of different pets -- cats, dogs, rabbits, horses -- and cats have always been my favorite.  But when my beloved step-father came into my life years ago, he was allergic to pet dander so I kept my home pet-free so he and my mother could stay overnight comfortably when they visited from out of town.

Unfortunately, about 18 months ago my step-father suffered a series of strokes that left him an invalid, and he will never be able to travel to my house again.  That left me free to get a cat, and in the emotional wake of everything that happened I needed one.

I waited until this past February, and on a snowy Sunday a friend and I made our way to the Humane Society.  I had "shopped" online beforehand, and went in with a list of cats to interview.  None of them were a match.  Either the cat was not right for me or I was not right for the cat.  I was about to give up when my friend suggested I keep looking since I was right there.

Just then I spied the tag on a nearby cage, and remembered the cat's name from the website.  I had watched her video and she seemed sweet, but for whatever reason I thought I didn't want a mackerel tabby.  I asked to see her anyway, and we were moved to a new visitation room to wait.

When she was brought in she was hissing at the Humane Society assistant, but when she saw me she made a beeline.  I was sitting on the little bench in the room, and within three minutes she was on my lap.  She did everything she could to tell me, without words, that we were meant to be together.  I'm so glad she knew and that I listened.

I didn't like the name she had (it didn't suit her at all), so I renamed her Nova -- for the small white star on her chest.  She is about six years old and in excellent health.  I am her fourth home in her short life, and in her last home she was bullied by the other cat and mauled by the dog.  Then she was shut into a room by herself to keep the peace, until she was dumped at the Humane Society again.

Their loss.  Nova is a wonderful cat.  She is sweet, loving, well-behaved, playful, and smart.  I simply can't imagine how she was given away three times.  I adore her, and wonder how I ever managed before she came to live with me.  : )  I am so pleased to have given her a true forever home.

That's our story.  If you'd like to see her, here she is -- helping me work.  ^_^

Welcome to the site !  Nova is beautiful!

To me, this site has all the best stuff:  the fun stuff, photo contests, a cat community where you can share the good and the bad with your online friends...and also a very detailed and complete array of information......reviews, veterinary articles, what types of litter are the best and on and on.  I swear, there isn't one thing regarding cats that is not covered on this site.

The reviews are very helpful too, if you are looking for good and/or new products and what ones to stay away from!

Glad you decided to join!
