I'm thinking about adding mice to my cats diet but I'm not sure how much to feed. If she normally eats 2oz of ground meat would a mouce that weighs less still be considered a whole meal? Sorry if thats confusing at all... I just want to make sure she isn't starving while I'm at work! Also, should I be supplementing as if it were ground meat? Or do I not have to worry about supplements with whole foods like mice?

You know that's a good question--and I'm still trying to find out the answer.
I know it partly depends on how much the cat does (and, um, should) weigh.
Here is a kind of related thread and this one. It is important to note that you should feed other types of proteins besides mice.

I usually offer 1-2 weanling/small adults (20-30 gram) per day and other proteins for the rest of the day, my cat will vomit up hairballs the next day if I feed more mice daily.  If I have a larger adult then just one and pinks/hoppers for treats.

I have five cats which eat a whole mix of whole and minced food so difficult to say, I would probably assess one chick and four small mice per cat as their only food. I tend to put out home made raw minced and chunked meals plus Docs,Doquail, and mice in separate bowls. Two cats don't touch the whole food but the other three chomp at anything!

Thanks for the info everyone! I tried giving her two and she left half of one... oh well! Maybe I'll try giving a little ground with next one. I'm actually pretty suprised she even eats them. She won't touch any other whole foods besides hearts!

Did you cut up the mice or leave them whole? Were they very large mice or on the smaller side? I'm just curious because I'm ordering some mice on my next Hare Today order in November and I wonder if I'm going to have to cut up the mice to get the cats to eat them!
I will if I have to but....don't want to!

They weighed about .8 of an ounce each. I still have to cut them in half for her to "get" that their food. It's a little gross, but seeing how happy she is when she's eating them makes it worth it. I started out giving her pinkies though and she ate those whole.
