I got an 8 week old kitten on Wednesday and he has been doing really well and is settling in quite quickly. My concern is that this evening, I found he had peed in my bed, this was just after/during he had spent a great deal of running around/playing. Up until this point, he has been using the litter tray with no issue at all.

What are the chances of this being a one-off from him playing around and "forgetting" to use the box?

I washed my all my bedding right away, before it even had chance to dry and have been placing him in the tray, moving the litter around and will continue to do this after he eats/drinks. He has also been sleeping in my bed, which I will put a stop to from now but I have given him one of my hoodies to sleep in.

Unfortunately, keeping him off my bed isn't that easy as I live in a studio apartment.

Any ideas/advice/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

The best bet is to restrict him to a small area, such as a bathroom, as much as possible when you aren't with him. We recently had a foster who we were beginning to despair of, but 3 days of restricting him to the bathroom got him straightened out.

Thank you, I will keep him in there when I go out and also when I go to bed. I hope this helps towards stopping this before it becomes an issue (fingers crossed it won't). Is there anything else I can do, as a precaution?

why move the litter around?  I think the risk is sooner he will get bewildered by this.   Its better to have one or eve two small extra litters.  so he has near to a litter wherever he is.

also, if you think he has any isssues with litter, there is the so coalled Kitten attract litter.  Dr Elseys is the most renown, but there are probably also others.   Sprinkle  a  little as the outer layer.

Restricting in the bathroom is very effective is they do have issues with the litter box, or not learned properly.

Here, I dont think its necessary. For a well behaving boy who forgot because he played so intensively, and being still a little kitten.

by the same reason, if it is OK for you to let him sleep in the bed, you may proceed with it.  Although its IS good he got his own nice place.

This depends of course, if an occasionally pee is an absolute no no, or if its is passable, as long it isnt no habit for him.

Good luck!

Sorry, I meant I have moved the litter in the tray to encourage interest, not moved the position or location of the tray. I am hoping it really was just a case of him having too much fun and being 8 weeks old. I don't think it can hurt to give him his own space when I am not here and when I am aleep for the moment, given he has not even been here a week. If anything, that will (hopefully) help him to continue using the tray while he settles and gets used to the new routine, etc. Although he has used the tray while being back out this morning, which is good. :-)

One of my cats once peed outside the litterbox as well. Only happened once, never again. If it's just one time, I wouldn't be too worried. He's only 8 weeks old, he played a lot.. he could have been too late to make it to the litterbox. If it happens again, or more regurarly, then I would start being concerned. Cat's don't pee everywhere for no good reason. Could be that he is sick, or not happy with his curent litterbox, or something else. So don't worry, unless it happens more frequently.

I agree with all the above posters, but if it does happen again, or even more, best to get him checked for any urinary issues.  Hopefully it was a one time thing, sense he is so young, & was playing a lot before hand.
