My cat Dudley is nearly a year and a half now and I've noticed his coat has had a little dandruff in it which I assumed was from the climate we live in (hot dry summers). For the past few weeks now I've noticed some strange scabs forming behind his ears. When I was taking a closer look at them I noticed a couple loose ones and when I picked them out of his fur there were small tufts of fur attached to them.

He's already on an allergy-sensitive food (Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Feline Low Sensitivity) so I don't think it could be allergies. I don't believe it is fleas either because I've seen no sign of them, he hasn't been itching abnormally, and he's been to the vet semi-recently. My kitten Pippin however play fights with him often so could it be that he scratches Dudley behind the ears? Or is it just that I need a different variety of allergy food?

It sounds like it could be an allergy.  Is he scratching there?  Does he have contact with any other cats besides pippin?  How long have you had pippin and where did he come from?

I've had Pippin for two months and my friend's cat got pregnant so we took one of the kittens. He's a very clean indoor cat just like Dudley. The only cats they've been in touch with have been each other since moving in together. It's just weird that it would be an allergy if he's already on allergy food wouldn't it?

Skin ailments are one of the more complex things to diagnose in cats, the vet manual on skin ailments is like 3 inches thick.  No chance its ringworm right?
