I was in my local Petsmart last night (Canada), and there was a big sign stating that Purina is experiencing ingredient shortages at the moment. The shelves were almost bare. The only FF pates in stock were the seafood one and a few cans of salmon pate. In the other lines, there was very little. The only Friskies on the shelf were flavours that had cheese added.

I later went to PetValu and the shelves were fully stocked and there was no sign up indicating a shortage.

My local Petsmart is not a good one. The teenage staff know nothing, I've had problems with orders, so I rarely shop there.

Anyone else having problems finding FF and Friskies? Just wondering if I should be going on a massive cat food spree.

Not cat food but I've learned that supermarkets sometimes justify the absence of an item by saying that the manufacturer has discontinued it. Go to a different store - surprise! there it is. Call the manufacturer and they say, no, it's not discontinued. I'm sure that's what's happening in the situation you describe.

There's only so much room on the shelves so if they bring in something new, something old has to go.

I tried that about books, here at home. I said for every new book brought into the house I'd get rid of one. But I lied about that. You'd think we were a library - they're upstairs, downstairs, in the guest room, in the kitchen, in my study (go to my web site in my signature and look at the meme of garden books in Garden Diary.)

I have had not seen any problems with Friskies in the States (where I am) I recently bought a case of Friskies and my sister said they had them on sale at her job... 10 for $5 and she works at little drug store.

Thanks for that article Cocheezie!

I was instantly worried but now I'm at ease.

In a different online forum, someone said it was due to a pork shortage (apparently a by-product).

hi all - i can tell you 1000% for sure that Whiskas has discontinued its "choice cuts" wet food in the octagonal foil pull tab containers.  my cat used to eat them up, but then recently i couldn't find them in the store so i emailed whiskas through their website and they confirmed that product is no longer.

Whiskas makes a canned of sliced...? (I'm not sure what flavour it was supposed to be) which I have seen at Wal-Mart recently, though it is about a 13oz can and may be too much food for one cat.

My local petsmart has the same signs up (US). From what I can tell from stores around here, it is mostly affecting the larger cans. There were plenty of 5.5oz cans in stock, while the large cans were all gone

I was in Petco last night and walked past the FF display (a whole wall) and it was fully stocked.

The big bully grocer around here used to carry Mornings then stopped so I thought it was discontinued. I emailed the company and they said the grocer should carry it. No luck

I live in Ohio and I've been noticing for weeks that the supplies on the shelves at every single Wal-Mart I go to and at my local grocery have dwindled considerably. I hope this is just an ingredient thing and not a cancelling of the line.

Welcome to TCS. The thread is from last year, so I don't think it is an ingredient thing.  WalMart seems to be cutting back on the Purina to push their own store brand. I have no trouble getting the Friskies at the larger stores. The Fancy Feast supply has not dwindled around me, either.

As of 11am, the Walmarts in Cincinati are displaying signs indicating the 5 oz friskies cat food will be unavailable until April. Shelves almost stripped.

Went to Petsmart and though there were no signs, there were also no unopened 24 pack cases - only scattered loose cans. (very unusual- usually they have cases stacked on back of shelves and overhead.)

Huh. Friskies is on sale at Petsmart and I just bought 3 cases on Monday. They didn't seem to be running low on anything. I hope the shortage is something local to Cincinnati and not going to be a national thing!

Very unusual , I was just at Walmart and bought 32 5.5oz cans . The shelves were full .  Maybe it is just your store that is having an issue getting the product ..
