I don't know if anyone started a French thread for anyone who might be interested in learning/practising!  (This was something some of us talked a little bit about in AlyssaM's post a couple of weeks ago.)

Cat in French is "chat".  "The cat" is "le chat". Chat is not pronounced like the English word though.  Here's a random video for how to say "chat" in French:   (Hopefully this is ok. I don't know how else to explain how to say it.)

Bon! Je parle un peu de francais, mais trop peu pour les conversations.
Reading terms here and there helps jog my memory but my main go-tos are that line, and "ou est la salle de bain?"

I ask where the bathroom is quite a bit myself...but in English!

My mom speaks French :) she really wanted to teach me, but then I started learning Japanese. She'll prolly get around to it sometime, I know some words though
Chien - dog
Bonjour - hello
Salute - hi or bye

I know more but I don't know how to spell them

"Je parle un petit peu de francais" was my standard phrase when I lived with and near French folks!  :)

Japanese sounds neat, LittleLion! That's neat your mom speaks French.

I made better grades in high school French class than in English.
I think it was the interest factor; I was already fluent in my own language.  The funny thing is, if I meet someone from Africa (everyone I've met from Africa can speak several languages) they can understand my French perfectly.  But I can't understand what they are saying, even when they speak really slowly for me.
