This morning I woke up missing my Sally, who has been gone a month and two days. I went back to sleep, but then I had a little dream that I could feel her brushing against me and purring. Now, I'm still  a bit messed up about her being gone, and I still miss her, but do pets actually come back to visit, or was it just a dream? I grew up with the fundamental Christian belief that animals don't have souls, but is that really true? Has anyone experienced this before? I admit that last night I put out another bowl of food and water and then walked around my place telling her that she is always welcome to come and visit. That might sound weird to some people, but people who are grieving will do things that might seem strange to others.

I believe a part of them still sticks around.  Maybe to comfort you or to watch over you... Since you are of the Christian faith, why not see her as a furry guardian angel.  I feel there is nothing wrong with believing in spiritual energy or "ghosts" if you will.  It doesn't have to be a bad thing.  She is just making sure you are OK and letting you know in some way, she is still there.  It doesn't make you "weird" or "crazy" either.

Not only do I believe that animals have souls, I believe that theirs are on a higher level than ours are. I believe that they come here with abilities that we don't possess and that they see and know more than we do. Unfortunately, they can't tell us what they see and know in a way that we understand. Do I think it was her coming back to give you some reassurance that she's OK. Yes, I do. I don't believe that the bond between us and the animals we love can be broken by anything including death. I don't think religion plays a part in it. I am not a religious person at all. Religion and spirituality do not always go hand in hand.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your little girl is watching over you because she loves you just as much today as she did then.

I believe it was her. I also believe 100 percent they have souls. Dreams are a way loved ones can connect with us imo. When I was on a holiday once I had a dream I was at my Grandfathers house and it was so real. He died about 6 months previously. I am not making this up, it was real 100 percent. My focus was on him, he was in his chair at the table like he always used to sit, in the kitchen and the fire place was lit like it usually was, and he said to me something to me in his language of origin. I know a bit here and there of that language { I wont reveal what it is I dont reveal much on forums } but not at all the words he said. Yet, I knew exactly what those words were even though they weren't in English, I knew exactly what they meant as if I was now a translator
. He was giving me a warning about something else I can't reveal. Something I was doing at the time that later led me on a downward spiral for 6 months afterwards. It was my grandfather in my dream, for real, not just a dream but in the dream it was him like a real life figure and I was there. Anyway, I woke up scared straight after. I went back to sleep, called up my mum and told her about the dream and she started to cry and said today is his birthday. I had no idea it was his birthday, nor the date of is birthday. There are not many family members I know the exact date of their birthday. It was my grandfather giving me a warning about what I was doing and the path I was on, on his birthday of all days.

Anyway, yeah, I believe it was her in your dream. If they can sense the future { my cat knew and gave me signs for certain things } I'm sure they can come back to you in dreams. I want so bad to have a dream like yours, and the one I had with my grandfather, about my boy. I miss him dearly and cried this morning again a couple of times or maybe 3:) You're not crazy for putting food and water for her, you know what, I am going to do the same:) thanks for the idea.

Yes they do have Souls !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Took in my brothers cat because he got laid off and had no where to take her, so I took "Julia " in. She is a handicapped kitty that could not use her front leg. Any way, she passed away from a brief illness and we did everything we could to try to save her. I was devastated and still cry from time to time. One day after she passed away, my mom asked if one of my red haired kittys had gotten out of my room, so I went back into my room and told her that all 3 are there. She said well."I just saw one running to your room like she was trying to get in !!! I looked at her like she was crazy and said" They are all in there!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well it must of been "JULIA" coming back to say "HI" to every one!!!!!!!!!!! My mom has the ability to see "SPIRIT" and I knew that she diddn't make it up !!!!!!!!! Also, have been to Michael and Marty Pary from Spirit Art.com ,he is a medium and his wife "SEES" spirit and will draw whoever she sees. He described almot all of my beloved pets that have CROSSED" to the other side!!!! Ask yourslf this : Why would a loving God allow U to have a pet,and never be able to see them again ? Would this be a Loving God ? I found that it is usually people that do not have love for God's creatures that will tell U that animals don't have a soul !!!!!!!!! Very sad for people that do not have love for God's creatures !!!!!!!!!!! Hope this helped U .

I agree, God made his creatures for us to love, why would he allow for them to be taken away just so that we will never see them again ? I thought he was a loving God. Yes we will be reunited with them...I have a lot of proof on that.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I forgot to mention that just after I experienced the cat rubbing and purring, when my eyes were still closed I could see in my vision bright colorful heavenly lights. I have seen that in my sleep more than once in the past while going through difficult times.

Why would humans be the only living thing to have a 'soul'? I believe ALL living things posses an energy or 'soul' that is a kind of essence that exists until we die. It defines who we are, and what we are. If we are really connected to another, whether it be human or animal, I believe that we still communicate on a spiritual level, especially during those black hours following a loved ones death. My Chrissy sent us a sideways shooting star when we were grieving and asking the heavens if she was safely across the bridge. I truly believe it was a sign. They are stressed when we are so sad, and the love we shared is enough to let them communicate in the only way they can, through dreams or other signs that we KNOW is them trying to comfort us. Let your precious one 'talk' to you, open your mind to the signs. Take care, I'll pray for you both to find peace.
