Okay here it goes. I apologize if  this is too long and detailed but I just need to get all the details and facts out there and hopefully someone can help me as I need the help so badly.

I posted last night about my baby boy Diego and his UTI problems the past few weeks. There's more facts I'd like to add to that..

Diego is my 2 year old tabby, he is neutered and on high end food (Nutrience) with a good balance of wet food. He has a water fountain, and although he is an indoor cat gets a good dosage of outside on a harness. He is such an incredible kitty to the point that people ask what I did to get such a well behaved cat, he is kind and loving and sleeps with me like a baby.

3 weeks ago  he went to the vet and they sedated him, testing him for a UTI, crystals and stones. I was sent away with clavamox 1ml twice a day for two weeks, saying he had a mild UTI. He seemed to get better -  after he finished his medicine 2 weeks after the vet I left the country for one week on an already planned trip. My sisters were home with him and about half way through the week I began getting calls that he was urinating on things again. I've been home for about 4 days now and had tried home remedys and he seemed to be doing better - until yesterday when he pee'd in my suitcase and it was red (which I am assuming was blood).

SO, two or three days after the vet he got outside. Now, when Diego gets outside he never goes far, and always makes himself known because he just wants to play. This night was different. I couldn't find him anywhere, the only sound of a cat I heard was a cat fight in the distance. Me being the worried cat mom that I am I made my boyfriend and friend come over and look for him until 2am that night, with no prevail I went to sleep and was up at 6am when I finally saw him and managed to grab him. There was nothing unusual, and I convinced myself that the cat fight I heard was a different cat.

The day before I left for my trip, I was petting Diego when I felt something - I examined and found what originally looked like a cut. The more I looked the more confused I got. I can't find anything that comes close to what this is - it's triangular with round corners, its hard, hard skin. It wasn't bleeding, swollen, he didn't even notice it was there. I decided that my sisters could monitor it, if anything changed while I was gone they could bring him to the vet. When I got home I looked at it more, and it looked the same. It looks as if its a scab that has formed underneath the skin and I could peel it off and take that patch of fur with me. It's about an inch long, an inch wide. I've been spraying silver on it and it seems to actually be helping the redness, but it also seems to be getting harder.

This morning, his ears are warmer than usual. Could this all be tied together? The UTI possibly coming back, the weird scab forming (could it be a bite?) the warm ears? I'm at a loss and every vet in this small town is out of town until tomorrow morning - after my post last night I tried to get him into an ER vet and got no answer.  He's always been so healthy and I've always done whatever I can do to keep him healthy and happy and spoiled.

I'm going to attach some pictures of the scab formation or whatever it is.

Please, if you have any knowledge or suggestions, we are desperate for some answers..

Thank you in advance.

It looks like he got tangled in a thorn bush or a bush with scratchy branches or possibly a scratch from another animal?  Its hard to say and that's not really the point.  It doesn't appear to be inflamed or infected.  Their ears are going to be warm.  Vets check temp through the anus or sometimes you can check the gums and tongue.  Also another tell tell sign of fever/infection is the mucus membranes may be dry or overly moist with yellowish and thick, instead of clear and very thin mucus.  It seems to be healing nicely.  So he's probably fine.  Considering he had Clavamox still in his system, it helped keep infection at bay is my theory.

A UTI can come back and the only reason it would come back this fast is if he didn't finish his medication cycle.  And you said he did.  If so, I wouldn't think so unless he has a kidney disease.  The Clavamox is still likely in his system so there shouldn't be any thing to worry about this soon... However, if you feel he is acting strangely, then yes call your vet asap.

To my untrained eye that looks like some type of bite or possibly when he was trying to get under a tree/fence he scrapped himself. Or an old bite that has healed.
Sometimes more than one type/course of antibiotics is needed. And given that he has had one UTI, I would transition him entirely to wet food (no fish).
I would take him to the vets first thing Tuesday. But then am a worry wart....

Okay @Ritz  and @P3 and The King.... I called the vet yesterday and they booked me an appointment for Friday morning, they thought he'd be fine until then.. I went out and bought new litter boxes for upstairs and downstairs since my old one was in need of replacement anyway, he seems to be using them and not peeing around the house anymore BUT when I put the box down today I hadn't even put litter in and he jumped in and peed... It was blood
I put it in a container and I'll be bringing it to my vet ASAP in the morning and getting them to test it. I am totally freaking out now. Any ideas???

Also he doesn't seem to be in any pain?? He's his playful loving self. If I hadn't been paying attention already I probably would have never noticed the blood.....

In my opinion the bite? on the neck isn't related to the blood in the pee.
Good that you're taking him to the vets. Sounds like his bladder is inflamed.

It's a bad UTI and needs more antibiotics. Your vet will be able to get fresh pee out of him by squeezing his rump. But be mindful that little boys can die of UTI as they can become toxic. Warm ears isn't necessarily a good gauge if the cat is fevered. If he is eating and drinking he probably doesn't have a fever. He was on the correct antibiotic but needs another round again. I would have the lump checked out just incase it's turning into a pus filled abscess. Hope he is up to date with his yearly shots. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out.

ritz ritz blackcat416 blackcat416 Urine sample dropped off.. Should know later today/tomorrow what needs to be done. He's eating, drinking, even using the litter box and not peeing on my stuff now that I've added one upstairs. If I hadn't been paying attention I'd never have guessed anything was wrong. Vet thinks crystals might have formed since the first antibiotics didn't fix it...

The scab has actually gotten smaller and smaller and is looking really good and healing. Thank goodness!

Thanks for all the imput.. I'll keep ya up to date.

does anyone on here promote "natural supplemens" or remedies...such as apple cider vinegar or colloidal silver?

I am not obviously encouraging anyone to use it on their cat, however my Mikki had a uti once in which antibiotics worked, but then a month or so later she was going back to the litter box again without going potty, so I knew she was starting in again with one. I put apple cider vinegar on the scruff of her neck and within 30 minutes...she went pee in the litter box. I had read up on many cases like that, however didn't believe it and was afraid to try it, thus putting it on the scruff instead of diluting it and giving it to her orally.

Been reading some powerful stories on colloidal silver drops as well. Again, I would never give it without studying up on it, but sometimes... I think there is reason to study some natural solutions.

mnm mnm I've actually been spraying silver on whatever this scab is for about a week and I think that's a big part of why it's healing so great! My family has always sworn by silver :) off to buy some apple cider vinegar... Doesn't hurt to try natural!!! Thanks so much!

just make sure to read up on how to administer it...esp if you choose to give a little orally...as it cannot be given without diluting it.. it would burn their throat!

Hi.

Sorry about all your cat drama lately.

First off the wound spot does look like just that, a wound.

Another cat likely, but who knows really.

If another cat, well he was luckily on antibiotics already which meant it not becoming abcessed, which they do.

It sounds like nothing to worry about since it's healing well.

As far as his UTI, quite often it will take a longer period of clavamox to completely heal a uti, as they are more complex than what they sound.

They can occur in the lower urinary tract, or the upper tract, kidneys as well. This is pyelonephritis. It's common for it to take up to a month of clavamox to heal totally.

How was his uti diagnosed, urinalysis/blood or just urinalysis?

I highly suggest since you've gone this far that the vet does a special test on his urine, I believe it's called a c&s (?) but what this is would be testing for which specific bacteria is causing his uti, so the correct antibiotic (which is usually clavamox btw) but the duration needed to cure it as well, depending on where the uti is in his system.

I'm happy that this kitty boy is so adored and well cared for.

Be cautious about him going outside/getting out if there is a bully cat he will encounter.

Now THAT is more dangerous than you realize, because this is how he can be infected with something there is no cure for, fiv and/or felv.

Good luck tmrw!

@catwoman707  the first time was diagnosed through a urine analysis only as far as I know... although I can't find my paperwork right now so they could have taken blood too. It was a big enough bill.

They sent the analysis away today it seems so I'm hoping that means they're doing more extensive testing into it....

He does not go outside unless on his harness and supervised unless he manages to escape, which lately he's been a  very good escape artist including ripping ALL the screens in my house!! Two cats that seem to roam the neighbourhood... he's BEST friends with one and doesn't get along with the other.... cats are so funny

We're at the vet now, he has to be sedated since he puts up quite the fight here but he's getting X-rays and blood work, as a urine analysis was done and he does have a UTI still that seems to have gotten worse and they want to make sure he doesn't have stones or anything wrong with his kidneys. Waiting now.. Will keep you all updated!

Results are all in! Thankfully he has no kidney disease, no crystals and no stones. The antibiotics didn't seem to clear it the first time so now he's had a shot of antibiotics to last 14 days, as well as another pill once a day for 14 days. He's also on a prescription diet for now. Dr was not worried about scab at all as it seems to be healing nicely whatever it is. Thank you all for your help :) Diego's on his way to feeling better!

Great to hear his kidneys are good.

Was the shot a covenia? What are the pills called?

What is his new diet?

Happy to know he is on the road to recovery!

Sorry to hear about your kitty. My cat had cronic utis. We figured it was stress related. I use feliway plug in and switched to a high quality wet food diet which I add more water too. When it does flair up I immediately put him on 2 weeks of antibiotics and bupernex. Knock on wood he hasn't had one for a while now. One time I came home and there was blood in the box so much that I thought someone was hurt. The vet couldn't even believe how much blood. It was scarry. The vet wanted him on c diet but I don't like the ingredients so I switched him to partial raw and wet food. Good luck.
