Hey all,

Hoping my baby Diego and I can get some answers here. He's 2 years old, indoor and neutered.

About 3 weeks ago I took him to the vet after he had been urinating around the house, been very on edge and even hissing. (SO unlike him) They ended up having to sedate him so they could get a urine sample and they tested him for UTI, crystals and stones. They came back with antibiotics and that it was a mild UTI.

He's now gone through the medicine and was doing better - but the past two days he's started urinating around the house again. This morning, I noticed one spot was slightly red which I'm assuming is blood..

I purchased some of the stuff you put in his litter to test the ph levels I believe and it's in the normal colour range.. I've been freaking out all day and can't get him into a vet until Tuesday without it being an ER call since it's a long weekend here.

He's always been so healthy, eats high end food (Nutrience) with a mix of wet food, has a water fountain, and is the most relaxed cat you'd ever meet. I'm stumped on how he would get a UTI and why he can't beat this thing.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. He's snuggled up next to me now and all I can think of is how much pain my baby is in.

Thanks y'all.

Do you know if they cultured the sample to get the best antibiotic?  It could be that the antibiotic didn't completely know it out and it's back.  If that is what has happened then he will need a different antibiotic because the bacteria will be resistant to what he was on before.  I know ER vets are expensive but especially given that it's a male kitty I think a trip to the ER is warranted.  These little guys can block even without the presence of crystals but from spasms.

I don't know if they cultured it or not.. Any idea why the ph level would test normal if he still has an infection? Very different findings in every test that's done it seems. I already had a hefty bill the first time - and as much as I want my boy to be better and I'll do whatever it takes to get him there I want to be prepared for the steps to be done correctly this time around so there isn't a third trip.

Yeah it sounds like if he was feeling better after the antibiotic treatment then later it seems like it's returned, it probably did.

What was the med he was given, dosage and how many days?

He was on clavamox, 1ml twice a day for two weeks. We followed this religiously 8am and 8pm every day
