I found my Kitten three weeks ago. He had a bad case of loose stools, with some blood. The Vet checked his stool, but didn't find anything, but gave Meds to treat, just incase. His loose stools cleared p in 2 days. We also had a Leukemia/ aids test and it was Negative. We had his first Vaccines a week ago. He is approximately 13 weeks old. He will be Neutered on Wednesday and get his Rabies shot. . He has not had a Leukemia shot, the Vet wants him to have 2. He will be a indoor only cat. She also wants him to have 2 more of the other Vaccines. Are all these Vaccines needed? Should I put him on Flea preventatives, even though, he has no fleas?

It's a good idea for kittens to have all their vaccines, even if they are going to be 100% indoor cat. This will give them a bit of extra protection if they ever do manage to get out. Whether you want to keep up with their annual boosters is another matter. There is some controversy over whether this is necessary or not. Some people feel that it increases a cats risk of cancer. I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions here, but I'd suggest you do a bit of research and decide for yourself whether you want to have the annual booster or not. But I'd recommend getting the initial jabs, just to be on the safe side.

I never use flea medicine on my cats because the area I live in is too cold for fleas to survive. Even the feral cats I feed don't suffer from them. Is Caesar an only cat? Do you have friends who have pets? Once your house gets infested with fleas it's a tough job to get rid of them, but if you've never found fleas on Caesar and you don't have contact with other cats he probably doesn't need it. Just keep the medicine handy in case it ever does become a problem.

I'm getting my latest foster kitten neutered in a few weeks, he must be about the same age as Caesar. Hope the surgery goes well.

Thank you, I will get the whole course then.
No fleas on Caesar, or friends with cats. But since I live it TX I do worry about them somehow getting in.
I'm sure ill be a nervous reck the day of his surgery, but I know it's a very low risk surgery.

Agree to the full course of the FVRCP vaccine. However, with the leukemia vaccine I am torn. Only half of my current crew has ever received this vaccine. The younger one have not (they are all 3 yrs old.)

If your kitten is what I call a "door darter" or one that hangs around a door waiting for someone to come in or out and you think it certainly possible for him to get outside, that, I would say to seriously think about the leukemia vaccine. Otherwise, I'm personally hesitant to give this particular vaccine.

That's what I was thinking about the leukemia. It's such a hard decision.
I always remember just getting the FVRCP vaccines twice. But I may have forgotten, my last cat lived for 15 years so its been a long time.

I agree with @catpack. I would avoid the Feline Leuk too, if your kitty is a "home body". My house kitties have only been outside in their carrier. Needless to say, outside looks like a scary place to them.

Hi everyone. Caesar came home from his Neuter yesterday afternoon. He seems happy, and doesn't hold a grudge.
I appreciate all your answers about the vaccinations. I will not be getting the Leukemia vaccine. I read many of the pros and cons and the treat of a tumor at the site is enough to scare me off.
He's a totally indoor kitty and he doesn't seem to have any interest in going out the door when I open it. So I believe he will be safe.
