My 3 year old cat has always been friendly, very independent, not a lap cat at all, but friendly and has always been my baby. Recently, my 13 year old cat died from health issues, and I decided to get a kitten. She was 8 weeks when I got her, and she stayed in my room with litter box and was fed in there as well, and my older cat had the rest of the house and was fed in the kitchen like normal. A few day later I brought my older cat in just to see her and smell her, and she hissed and ran away and hid, and I've had my kitten for 3 weeks now and my older cat will not go near her, and now she's started hissing and trying to attack me aswell! Which is just really upsetting because I hoped so much they''d get on and I wouldn't have to keep them separated this long and be constantly worried about what my older cat will do if my kitten runs downstairs and just wants to play!

I've tried giving my older cat treats, I've tried putting my older cat in my room where my kitten stays without the kitten present to let her smell the room and she just hisses and does that inner aggressive meow thing, she's scratching me when I try to go near her, she runs away from me, I don't know what to do. My family keep saying she'll get used to the kitten, but I'm not so sure :( any previous experiences or ideas would be much appreciated!! Thank you!

Hi! Welcome to the forums!

I recommend starting over completely and using the steps outlined in this article: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/introducing-cats-to-cats

Take it very slowly, making sure both cats are okay at each step before moving on further.

Also be sure to be giving some extra attention to your first cat... you don't want her to think she's been replaced!

Good luck :)
