It's HOURS past my bedtime.  HOURS.  I have small kids so it is VERY important that I don't wake anyone up during the night so i really focus on being quiet.

So what do I do?  In the dark and on my way to sleepy I decide to turn the little light over the stove on.  Except I hit the button for the fan; which starts on high.

I'm awake now.  Thankfully I don't think I woke anyone else up.  Noodles didn't seem too irritated either.

I really should have just headed for the bathroom in the dark.

I've done that since we got the new range blower above our stove.....I'm still not used to all the buttons up there. Glad you didn't awaken the kids!

Our fridge as all these little blue lights on the display. We have the water and ice lights lit at night, which, amazingly, gives us enough light to be able to move around in the kitchen. Only in our case, it's because we don't want to awaken the cats! Cats that get awake seem to automatically think it's time for breakfast, even if it's 2:00 in the morning. And who wants to deal with that so early? Not me!

That would have scared the
 out of me.
At my old house, we only had one bathroom and it was on the main floor so I used to have to come downstairs every night to use the bathroom (because I'm sure you know how often that is while pregnant). There was a light right at the bottom of the stairs and before bed every night, I made sure there was nothing in my way so I didn't wake up too much. I love my new house, the bathroom is directly outside my bedroom and I have a night light on in the hall so I don't have to turn on any lights.

My cats are easier to shut out than the kids!  DS is into jumping out of his crib (he is not yet 2 1/2) and terrorizing his bedroom.  Right now the box of baby wipes is full of balled up wipes from the other morning's adventures while I was in the shower.  Today he was up about 2 1/2 hours early.  I didn't get to bed till 3 this morning.  My 4yo called for me at 3:30 and DS was up at 7:30 according to DH.  To be fair; I didn't wake up till 8 something but I was hoping to sleep till 9!  DH always keeps an ear on the kids in the morning.  I am NOT a morning person.  Because of DH's work schedule my kids go to bed at 10pm.  So DS's normal sleeping hours are 10 to 9:30.  He hasn't been napping either.  I think he's getting over tired.

So DH and I spent a few hours putting him back in his bed.  I eventually took all his extra buddies and most of his blankets.  My little adorable stinker fell back to sleep for over an hour.  I had to wake him up for breakfast!  I was standing there with the lights on, Noodles meowing and taking a few dozen pictures (because he's so cute when he is passed out like that!) with my cell phone.  I tried talking to him and even that didn't wake him up!  Noodles has a vet appointment in a bit and I bet he falls asleep in the car too.

I'm glad I didn't wake him up when I set the fan off.  Can you imagine starting all this malarkey at that hour!?  On no sleep?
(That's why I'm not wanting to get him a toddler bed yet too.)

Haha!  That's me.  I'm afraid to get up to use the bathroom or get water during the night because if I wake up the cats, they'll think it's play and/or food time and I won't get any sleep the rest of the night!  Too funny.

When I have to pee in the middle of the night, I walk very quietly and then do not flush the toilet so I don't wake up Autumn

Oh boy.  We have a whole house fan.  It got wired wrong and the light switch at base of steps needs to be on for it to work.  There is a switch at top of steps that also controls the light.  I have hit that a few times.

I so agree you can not wake the cats.  Mostly they are good but lately I been getting up around 4-5 AM to eat and they all come looking for food.

Oh boy. This happened to me just today, but in reverse. I was sleeping on the couch because for some reason it's a lot more comfy, and I have a paper shredder in the living room. I guess I must have forgotten to unplug it. Woke up to a really loud RRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRrrrrrrr in the middle of the night, followed by crashing sound of my roommate's guitar case that is propped against the wall. And little tabby feets. Lots of them, fading into the direction of the farthest room in my apartment; my bedroom.

My heart was pounding so hard I didn't go back to sleep until 6am, by which time I gave up.

A shredder noise would be scary to wake up to!

I have a particular walk I do to get down my hallway without making the floor squeak and pop.  If I take 4 big steps and stay to the one wall I avoid most of the noise.
Then a big step to the right and I'm almost home free!  My bedroom is at the far end of the hall and I have to walk by both kid's rooms to get to it.  DS's room is right off the living room.  That doesn't help things!

I don't flush at night either. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I've done it to avoid waking my babies. My DDs room is next to the main bath and she was a light
sleeper as a baby. Never wake a sleeping baby at night! Lol
In my case it was the other way round. When my 40 year old got up at night they house was ablaze. All next to my bedroom. My door was open their's closed. Toilet light on. Flush. Bathroom light on to wash hands. A good night mummy shouted. I asked her once if she could manage all that In the dark. It was done and as she went into her room she shouted good night mummy!!!

I was living at home with my parents. Came home around 1:00 one Sunday morning. Crept in and everything was fine. I was a wee bit hungry, so I thought I'd make a piece of toast. Plugged in the toaster, threw a slice of bread in, and put the lever down.

Well, the piece of toast came up....and the smoke detector came on (something in the toaster would activate the smoke detector sometimes and I forgot about it). Mom and Dad came running out the hallway, Mom in her nightie and Dad is his underwear....it was not something you'd really want to see. I explained that all I did was make a piece of toast!

They went back to their bedroom and came back out in robes. I ended up making an early breakfast for everybody. Bacon, eggs.......and toast! My brother never heard the smoke alarm go off, but he smelled the bacon frying, so he came out to join the breakfast party, too.

The next Saturday night before I left the house, Dad said to me, "Pam, if you come home after midnight, do NOT make toast!"
