Its been a long day for me here in the UK. It started off after I had a bad night sleep and then on what is a dress down day in the office, I had to wear a suit! Reason was simple enough - Some time ago - I came up with an idea that has allowed the company to regain about 70 per cent of its revenue that was being held up by varuious holds on accounts. It was never meant to snowball in to the size that it has and today, I had lunch with four of the directors and then was presented with an award with a colleague who worked on my idea with me. Out of 70 000 ideas people had, mine was chosen!
We were given an award for excellence in problem solving, innovation and ideas and treated to one hell of a lunch. They were all genuinely interested in what I had to say - although not a lot i would say and I let others talk. They treated me as an equal and it was possibly the best day of my working career.
As well as being given a beautiful certificate (my 2nd in three years) from them, we were given stunning and expensive silver pens and a huge bottle of champagne each to enjoy.
And if that was not enough - we have been invited for an all expenses paid weekend in the new year to the top country club / hotel in Wales (they play the ryder cup there in a couple of years) where it costs about £200 plus per person per night for a basic room. I am told we have suites that are a heap more than that ! Not bad eh.
They took some photos and a meeting that was supposed to last 40 minutes went on in excess of 2.5 hours.
I am mentally shattered after it all as found the whole conversations intellectually stimulating. I have a single photo email to me that you are welcome to see of me in a suit (yes I do have a few and do wear one every now and then but have no idea how to put it on here for you - unless anyone can help?).
However, what a day. I have let my wife have the pen, and we may crack the bottle over the weekend - then again - we may not and save it for a rainy day.
Not bad day, for once , for me!
Kev

Have pm'd you (is that legal and something that can be done between consenting adults
) - and yes and no to the familly thing - I cant take our son - he would however, relish a night with grandma - it will mean Carol and I will go - possibly fly down - in the mean time I will have to spend three months looking at dresses again (probably backless, strapless, - never costs less - do they) and for me it will be five mins into a penguin suit! men are so easy at getting clothes thankfully.. however, all those straps less mean less time to ....... sorry cant say anymore - not past the watershed for children yet!

Here is the picture!

Kev is the bloke on the left, the man he worked with is one on the right. The bloke in the middle is the customer service director.

Doesnt he look lovely?

Way to go, Kev. A pat on the back does everyone good once in a while - not to mention a weekend in Wales. Enjoy!

LOL....I was also confused by the term "shattered" and have never heard of knackered either. I thought something bad happened to ya Kev! I had to give a presentation to the president of my company and walked away with the same feeling.

Congratulations on all the rewards and recognition! Well deserved!!

p.s. You look wonderful in a suit - you clean up well!

I had to remind myself that shattered meant worn out for the Brits when I saw it was Kev's post. LOL Language differences! Right now I'm teaching a woman from France about computers at work. She's there to support our French customers, but she doesn't know computer terms in French. It's an interesting job--try explaining hot backup.

Kev, you look great and the funny part is you're exactly how I imagined you'd be! Yay! And congratulations on the award!

Way to go, Kev! What an awesome day for you!! Congratulations, enjoy your weekend in Wales, you've earned it!

P.S. -- When I saw the title of the post, I was afraid something bad had happened! I also think of shattered as being "crushed", or sad, etc. Interesting language differences.
