@Red Top Rescue  that's hysterical! What a character you must have, steal half your sandwich?! Gotta love him just for the uniqueness :)

I did want to add this regarding Connie.

Normally, or at least the panleuk virus strain I know from the past years has a pretty standard period of time between exposure to the virus and onset of symptoms, which is anywhere from 2-10 days, although some have popped up in as long as 14 days later.

However. This year's panleuk strain that has come to our area here in CA east bay, and north bay, is much longer.

Now it is taking between 2 and 3 weeks to show symptoms with this one.

Guess who is curled up in my lap voluntarily! We may be on the mend! Just need to keep doing what we are doing for now. Need some meat on her bones!

That is amazing!

If she has shown ANY signs of improvement after 4 days, her chances are better that she might be one of the very few lucky ones!!

Just keep her well hydrated, this is the key to getting through this virus.

Sending loads of good positive vibes!!

That;s just wonderful!  I have read that the course of panleuk is generally downhill without upswings, so if she has turned around, that is a really good indication that she is likely to keep improving and pull through.  I did pull an adult cat through many years ago so I know it can be done.  She was on an antibiotic because she had no immune system left, and she got vitamin B shots to make her new cells grow faster, but she did grow back her full immune system and lived a fine healthy life after that.

So how's Connie?

Apparently there is something that you can do now to help her not get sick like your other one.

She can be given 2-4 mls of blood serum from an immune cat to help fight off the virus.

@Red Top Rescue  can give links here about this, and you might also ask your vet asap, as prevention is better than waiting.

That is if you are able to.

I have no clue on what this costs, but a healthy blood donor cat who is fully vaccinated or who had panleuk and survived it at some point is who's blood you would use.

Amazing if you ask me :)

They are both great, running and playing. So awesome.
I see the vet today and I will ask about the serum.
Thanks!

Clean bill of health from the vet! Both gaining weight! Started Flagyl for diarrhea she thinks is tamiflu and viral shedding. Also starting probiotics!

Do you have the Flagyl pills?  Those are very bitter.  My kitty has been on it a few times for IBD, cutting up the pills and putting them in empty gel caps really helps.

This is incredible news!

It stumps me really, how one can have panleuk and make it through, as young as they are, and the other one not get it at all?

What kind of strain could this be? Certainly not any I have seen, at least with a chance to pull them through, but nope, every one I have lost to panleuk, no matter how much support they got, died.

ALL littermates/housemates got it and died too.

A milder form? Crazy, but never the less I am so happy for you and your family!!
