I'm not sure if I should get a used "Kitty Tube"?  Any issues with it being used as far as diseases or smells from another feral cat?

We have a shed, too, but it's further from the house and the cat likes to sit right outside looking in.  She's not 'feral' like I first thought she was but I cannot rush to bring her in because I already brought in all 4 of her kittens and this mama will hiss often and I'm just not trusting her around my kids in enclosed spaces.  I was thinking she'd prefer a shelter closer to the house and possibly even get a heating device for under the bedding?

She would need to sanitize it well.  Cats may not use it if it smells like another.  Yet, if the weather is cold and wet she may choose to use it.  Just be sure the entrance of the kitty tube has enough of an overhang to keep rain/snow out.  I have my cat house under a tent like structure so that it is completely out of the elements.  I do use outdoor approved pet heat pads and my cats just love them.

If you scrub it thoroughly with Nature's Miracle or something similar and leave it in the sun for a few days, it should be fine.  Like Shadow's Rescue said, make sure it has an overhang.  The Kitty Tube people designed one and I believe they sell it separately for the older models that didn't have it.

I have been soooo tempted to buy one.  They look so snug and comfortable.

One more thought - she may not use it because they only have one entrance.  If she's unsure, she'll want an escape route.

Place it where she hangs out the most, as protected from the weather as you can.  It may take her awhile to get used to it.

The rubbermaid containers I used last winter worked so well.  They were the perfect size.  I was able to use Reflectix insulation on the sides, top and bottom.  I then put a heat pad in the bottom and cut a hole in the back corner to get the cord out.  The plastic was a bit difficult to cut, but I saw a tip to heat it gently with a lighter to soften the hard plastic.  I then put duct tape around the sharp edges.  My boys loved these.  Here is a picture of one of my indoor guys modeling it!!  Also one of the cats using it in June as they loved it when it rained. I cut a front entrance as well as one on the side.  My ferals must have an exit and entrance.
