I am having trouble understanding how one would know whether a cat is a pointed DSH or a Siamese mix. Leo is a seal point and I read it isn't very common for a DSH to have a seal point coloration. Any ideas

?

If that is true, you do have your answer.   :)

Otherwise, points is a pattern which can happen literally anywhere. And the genetics is fairly simple, a  nice twist of the nature..

Its enough if the parents are carriers.  Themselves they can look anything. They may be purebred russian blue or  a moggie from the street.

The point gene is recessive and weak if alone.  All other gene types are stronger.

But doubled up - one from momma and one from daddy - it becomes very strong and gives almost entirely the outer appareance of the kitten in question - it will often be a look alike of an old type siamese.   Not seldom real beauties.

Although the siamese ancestors may be 30-40 generations back!

How is the tail?  If fairly bushy, you shall count the cat to a medium / semilonghaired, and compare it with a balinese instead...

Good luck!

my guess would be siamese. think a tabby would have to have some stripes but not positive. a cutie for sure.
