I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty

I am assuming this is the dry form correct?

Honestly there really isn't much you can do for him, give him whatever he wants or will eat at this point.

Give him lots of love and hugs, tell him how special he is, and promise him you will not delay the minute you see he is suffering.

If he won't eat, it has begun.

I am so very sorry to hear this. I just received the same news this weekend about my darling boy. He's been sick for a while, and I'm not convinced the vet is correct. How long ago was he diagnosed? And does the vet think it's the wet or dry form? (I am no FIP expert - I knew nothing about this devastating illness until my boy was diagnosed on Sunday - but it would be good to hear a bit more about your situation.)

My cat didn't eat for two whole days after surgery to remove a foreign object in his stomach. Now he has finally started eating and drinking again which is great to see.

Unfortunately though, he has started eating cat litter, which is apparently a sign of anaemia (he is definitely anaemic, his nose and gums are very white and his breathing is a bit ragged now and then). I think that licking concrete could well be caused by the same reason: http://www.icatcare.org:8080/advice/cat-health/anaemia-cats. Have you raised this with your vet?

My vet gave my cat an injection on Sunday (I will have to find the name), that apparently you can give every three weeks and will control fever (I don't know how long for), and stimulate the production of red blood cells, among other things. This has really helped my cat these past couple of days.

In terms of getting him to eat  - I managed to get my cat to eat Hill's a/d. First I mixed it with some warm water and fed it to him via a syringe (he really struggled but I knew he HAD to have food, so I persevered). This started his appetite and now he is readily accepting food again. He likes to be hand fed though, he's not interested in eating from a bowl. He is still extremely sick, but it's v good to see some improvement. I also gave him a tiny bit of water from a can of tuna which seemed to get his appetite going. As catwoman says above, if you can get him to eat anything, any of his favourite foods, it's better than nothing.

In terms of keeping your cat happy, I'd say try to keep him as relaxed as possible. When cats are very sick they don't have the same reactions, but may experience the same frustrations. For example, my cat hates being touched anywhere but his face and neck. He's so sick that I could touch him anywhere right now and he wouldn't react, but I am being super careful not to do anything that I know would annoy or upset him if he were feeling 100%. I am petting him as much as I feel he enjoys, and watching for signals that he wants to be left alone for a while. It's so hard as I just want to sit with him 24/7.

I hope this helps, if even a tiny bit.

Once again, I am so sorry, and understand what you are going through. It's indescribable.

Hello Koki12, my cat has fip too. I managed to get pills and food into him with less trauma after many desperate trials and errors. I posted the ideas on this forum 'pilling a cat and forced/assisted feeding'. I hope it can help.
