Hello, new to the forums and looking for some advice on a stray.

One night after coming home late from work I found a small cat I front of my car. The cat was friendly and I gave it a scratch on the head before walking to my front door. I didn't realize it but the cat had followed me and walked right into the house with me. Poor thing was starving, skin and bones, so I opened a can of tuna and put it outside with the cat. Ever since that night the cat has hung around my house.

I searched missing cat ads and contacted a few people I thought might be the owner but no takers. She's a really friendly cat and in need of help so I have decided to adopt her. Not sure if she's spayed or not. She has fleas and I believe a URI. Have been feeding her regular cat food and gave her advantage 2 for the fleas. I don't have a ton of money but I really want to help this little kitty get back to full health. How much should I expect to spend on the URI treatment, immunization shots, and spaying? Any additional info for a first time cat adopter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thank you SO much for rescuing this cat.
Prices vary depending on where you live. I would contact local rescue groups and find out who they use as their vet--maybe the vet will cut you a break on price, especially on spay/neuter. National Feral Day is around October 16--while this cat isn't feral, she is a rescue, so I'd check around for 'specials'. If you tell us where you live, we can help identify low cost s/n clinics. Some big box pet stores (PetCo, PetSmart where I live) do low cost vaccinations/microchip; check them out.
He/she does need to go to the vets for a check up--spay/neuter; test for FIV/FelK, dewormed, deflea, rabies vaccination. URIs treatment is antibiotics and can turn serious if cats stop eating cause they can't smell the food.
(I'd write more but trouble with my computer.)

Ditto on the thank you! You are her godsend.

In my area, the SPCA does low cost spaying that includes shots. We also have several organizations whose sole mission is to spay and neuter pets. This month, one organization is spaying or neutering cats for free (and it includes rabies shots!). I'll bet if you look, you'll find such an organization near you.

I would definitely have her checked for the URI - cats can fight it off for only so long, then go downhill quickly. Good luck!
