I have a 5 month old kitten who recently broke her leg. I took her to the vet and they put a splint on her. I went to pick her up yesterday and they informed me they had to remove the splint because she kept getting tangled in it. They said the break could heal on its own, but I'd have to keep her in her pet carrier for four weeks to help the healing process. She's been in there one night and she hates it, of course. She's constantly crying and I feel terrible for her. Is there anything I could do to make the next four weeks a little more comfortable for her? I've been putting down puppy pads in there and changing them regularly. She has a food dish with food and water. I even put a kitty toy in there to give her something to do, but she's just so miserable. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not sure what the vet means by her getting tangled in the splint. I would highly consider getting a second opinion.

have a 4 1/2 month old kitten recovering from an injury. He spent 6 weeks in a splint/cast. It took him about a day to get use to walking in it, but he he tolerated it quite well.

I confined him to a 3 ft by 2 ft size wire dog crate (with the cast on.) He had the pin in his leg removed last week and upgraded to a 4 ft by 3 ft crate. He still has about another 4 weeks to spend in the crate.

You can purchase metal crate bowls that attach to the crate to keep your kitten from stepping in her water and knocking the bowls over. It also frees up some floor space.

If you are able, elevate the crate up on a table next to a window to look outside.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I've never had an animal break a bone before, so this is really new to me. I'll definitely try to find another vet that's close by to check her out. I just want her to be okay ):
