I have a 4 year old neutered male cat that has been having some issues. Almost 2 years ago he had his first urinary blockage. It wasn't too bad, had some fluids at the vet and it cleared without a catheter. Was on an antibiotic and a urinary health canned food for a few weeks. Before that he had been on TOTW dry food. After a couple week on the urinary health canned food I switched him to different canned foods (he's very picky so whatever I could get him to eat, usually wellness core, friskies, or natural balance) mixed with some water. He then had another blockage last week. His bladder almost ruptured and his kidneys were in bad shape. After a week at the vet he's home and on an antibiotic. They sent him home with Science Diet c/d multicare ocean fish canned food and recommend he stay on it forever. Is this the best food for this? I'm not a fan of Science Diet. He's also been having a lot of hairballs lately. He tends to puke after his dinner with no hair then will have the hairball once a day.

Personally, in this situation, I would go with the prescription since the blockage was so bad this time.

I typically advise non-prescription, but if he was on 100% canned and still got blocked, I might go prescription, too. I would, however, consider Royal Canin and not a fish flavored food.

Hi !!! i too had a young male that would only eat grain free kibble and got blocked up. Luckily they were able to save him. my cats only vet put him on Royal Canin So urinary canned cat food and he is doing so well now. She said that it s okay for the other cats to taste it too. So now he only eats that plus a "few" dry kibble as a snack only. You can also get the dry kibble. All of my other cats eat various grain free canned food mixed with some raw food and only get the urinary so dry kibble as a snack. Hope this helps your furbaby!!!
