Hi everyone

Just wondered if anyone has tried their kitties with Feringa? The content of meat and innards looks excellent and thinking of trying my two kittens with a trial pack of the rabbit, parsnip and catnip flavour. I can't feed one of my two beef as it seems to give him diarrhea.

I have tried most flavours of Applaws (fish is the most popular), Cosma, Cosma Thai, Bozita (they're not so keen on this one), Lily's Kitchen and Wainwrights in tuna. Got Almo Nature to try too. I know most like applaws and almo are not complete. I do feed a complete dry food and do have some complete wet food to provide a good mix but I wondered if anyone had tried the Feringa range and also Grau and Schmusy Nature? My aim is to provide balanced but varied diet for both my kittens whilst not making them fat! Haha ;) generally I feed 100-140g wet food (two meals) a day with 50g dry which is out during the day to graze on.

Thanks in advance :)
Val, Frankie & Phoebe x

If your cat eats Feringa, than it is a great food to feed. Out of all the other similar brands (Animonda, Grau, Granata Pet, Catz), Feringa is the smelliest. It has a really powerful lingering smell - which is very attractive to some cats but can be off-putting to humans. I am quite sensitive to smells and I really couldn't stand Feringa. For about the same or less money and less smell, I feed  the other brands I mentioned.

Thank you for your opinions :) I did order a pack of 6 feringa in rabbit and parsnip. Also a mixed trial of cats finefood. Tried the herring and crab one this evening mixed with some tuna applaws and they ate all of it. The rest is in the fridge for tomorrow. Will bring it to room temp before feeding. I also ordered some Schmusy kitten in salmon and turkey I think. It's all in German so can't quite remember.

I was told that even though they are kittens there is not much difference in complete food for them and adults so I do feed a mix of the brands. Have wainwrights kitten which is complete too. Overall a good variety to rotate on. The youngest has a habit of sniffing food and walking off so let's see!

PS - thanks for the pong warning with feringa ;) my boyfriend hated the smell of the catz one so he may run a mile with the feringa haha. I'm not too bad. I tolerate it for them :)

I agree with IrinaSaK. Feringa is a good brand and really nice quality :) Grau and Cats Finefood, Animonda Carny. and Granapet are also wonderful brands :) They just didn't work for me though unfortunately since my cat Mew is one of the pickiest cats! He absolutely hates Pate style foods and will refuse to touch any food that is. Out of all the brands listed above, he slightly (but barely) prefered Feringa. He could almost tolerate the Rabbit with Parsnips & Catnip and he prefered the Chicken with Squash & Catnip the most :) I guess he could almost tolerate that because it has a stronger smell than the other brands like IrinaSaK said. But he just wouldn't it because it's pate. If your cat loves shredded foods, Thrive Complete is awesome. It's shredded and it's compelete. The only downside is that it's pretty expensive. If your kitty enjoys Applaws, maybe they would enjoy Applaws Pate. It's a complete food and it's also really good. It's strange but Mew absolutely hates any Pate food in exsistence and has refused every brand or type of Pate I've given him, but he absolutely loves the Applaws Pate for some reason which came as a total shock to me. So lucky I was able to add that in my rotation along with Bozita :) I really do wish there were other good quality food's that were shredded or in chunks.

Also just my opinion, but Schmusy Nature is horrible :( Both the cans and pouches are complete, but the meat content in them are bad. Schmusy Nature also has grains, really low quality of meat, and by-products. So I would avoid it :)

I hope all goes well with the new food! It really comes down to your cats preference :)

Oooh funny you should say that as Frankie doesn't like Schmusy. Haha. He ate it but tried to bury it more! I won't be getting it again. I saw that it had lower meat in it but they seemed ok (tummy wise). Frankie can't eat anything with beef so as much as I want to try Animonda it's beef content is far too high. Also my mums elderly cat hates the pate food and sniffs and walks away from it!

They like applaws a lot. The fish ones mainly. I don't give often as not complete. I will give thrive a go on my next order :) I try to give the shredded type as well as pate to offer different textures as well as variety. They do get bored of solid pate style all the time.

I am yet to try the feringa with them. Will most likely tomorrow. Their favourite at the moment is Lily's Kitchen with its of cooked chicken in it.

I am hoping this is doing them good at least! Spent a fortune lately trying to vary their sort more haha :) lucky cats!

It is good Frankie doesn't like Schmusy since it really isn't good quality food :p That's pretty funny he tried to bury it! Since Frankie can't eat anything with beef, Animonda isn't a good option since it has too much beef. That's funny your mom's cat also hates Pate food!

I know a lot of cats love the Applaws or Almo Nature food. You should try the Applaws Pate line :) It is complete and a lot of cats like it. Thrive Complete really is a amazing cat food and my cat is absolutely in love with it. But it is pretty expensive, so that's the only down side. It's good you give them different textures. :)

I'm excited you are going to try Feringa and I hope it goes well! Lily's Kitchen is also a really good brand :) Nature's Menu is also a good food thats not too expensive and it's Pate.

I can tell you really do care about your babies and you are doing an amazing job of taking care of them! I know, I spend a fortune trying to find brands Mew loves also ha ha :)

He does he tried to bury it. He basically starts scratching at the place mat under his food bowl as if he is trying to bury it! So funny.

Awww thank you for saying that jenniator :) I try my best. To be completely honest with you it is only recently I started to educate myself on feline nutrition. I recently moved out of my mums and bought my first house. Sadly my childhood cat who id grown up with all my life pretty much had to be put to sleep last November. I miss Kipper dearly :( 15 years - he did pretty good!

So I then felt empty. I got myself a rescue kitten soon after he passed and then in February a pregnant queen in foster care at the same rescue gave birth to little Phoebe and four other kittens. Below is her only hours old and then as she is now. Frankie is the black and white :) Sadly Phoebe's mum died of heart failure 8 days after she gave birth and the kittens had to be fed by a surrogate mum cat as well as hand reared. All I knew is that I wanted the best for them both. They didn't have the best start to life. And I started to read up on everything. Then discovered Zooplus :) I am not sure If I can get Natures Menu on there but I shall look into it. They love Lily's especially with cooked chicken breast chopped in. I buy a variety and mix it. I will give the Applaws pate a go. I can get that in a local pet store and then buy online of they like it :)

It's too cute that he tries to burry it! I have a friend and their cat also tries to burry/cover their food with objects ha ha. It really is funny :)

Your welcome :) I really can tell you want the best for your babies and that you are doing everything you do. That's really awesome of you to start educating yourself about feline nutrition! It really is wonderful of you to do that :) Congratulations on your first house! I'm so sorry to hear your childhood cat passed away :( I know how difficult it is to lose your baby, especially when you've had them for so long. 15 years is good for a cat, so I'm glad he was able to get to that age :)

That really is heart breaking :( I'm sorry your rescue kitten passed away. It's wonderful you were able to take in Phoebe and give her a home. She is so tiny in that picture! But she is only 4 hours old :) Thank you so much for showing the pictures of your kitties! They really are beautiful cats. It's amazing to see how much they've grown from the younger pictures. That's sad Phoebe's mom passed away only 8 days after giving birth to the kittens :( They really did have a rough start in life, but I'm so glad you have been able to give them the best :) Zooplus really is awesome website and I love it ha ha :) You can't get Natures Menu on Zooplus unfortunately, but maybe you will be able to find it in a pet store. That's really good they love Lily's kitchen and it's a really good food :) You should give Applaws Pate a go and see what they think of it! It really is a huge success here ha ha.

My cat eats ziwipeak, and likes it a lot but I want to be able to feed her other brands as well. I´ve decided to try Grau first, and see what my cat says about it. She eats everything (!.....even the things she shouldn´t) ) so I do hope that she likes it. Then I will try Feringa. I recently discovered zooplus, and it feels like there´s so many brands I´ve never seen before. I´ts like a shopping spree for your cat!

adorable pictures!

Zooplus is amazing. I've also found the Happy Kitty Company. They've got other brands such as Granatapet and MAC.

Catz Finefood is also a very good brand they like. Also pate like. They love the herring and crab flavour but love fish in general! If you're UK based cicoccabim try Wainwrights. Both chicken and tuna are brill. I've got kittens but the cat variety is pretty good and it's a complete feed :)

Jenniator they've started selling Natures Menu in Pets at Home here and I've found a local supplier that's 5 minutes from work. You can order, pay and pick up 3 days later so may try that once they've eaten all the food I've ordered. Spent a fortune on food.

Cicoccabim, also good from zooplus - Cosma in tuna in jelly (this is complete), Cosma Thai range (not complete but good texture and flavours plus all natural), Lily's kitchen in fish flavour and kitten dinner. I bought a trial pack of Catz finefood (trial variety 1) and happy to see no beef or pork in there :) Frankie's intolerant. I tried Bozita but neither were very enthusiastic and just ate the jelly haha. Don't think they're keen on chunks. For the supplementary feed I tend to mix it with a complete food and I provide dry complete throughout the day. And I weigh it so they don't overeat haha ;)

Next to try - Grau Grain Free and Smilla - this is currently on offer too! So much choice! Negative on the £££££££ haha. On the plus they need less of these good brands as they're more filling. A 200g tin lasts them almost two days. Let me know how you find Grau. I have to be careful as some had beef in. Think turkey and salmon seems ok though

I go on holiday Saturday and will miss my kitties. Sad I know

Thanks! Unfortunately she is allergic to fish and fish oil..... But I´ll have a thorough read through of the brand you´ve suggested. I´ve ordered Grau grain free, will be delivered today ???

I agree that these brads are more expensive but lasts longer. When switching her to zp I did some serious calculation on royal canon pouches  and compared it to the cost of zp wet food. And, found that zp (bought in the bigger cans)  is cheaper than rc! (she eats wet food in the morning and dry the rest of the day). Now zp has raised their prices on venison, but I´ll never switch back!

And- thank you all for a wonderful place to discuss! I´ve missed a place like this. I think my coworkers are quite fed up with me only talking about cats and cat food, and what she did or not do......

You're welcome. I'm the same. I am a crazy cat lady through and through though ;) so they can't expect anything less. I came on here to discuss what I think are important matters. The cats are a huge part of my life :) and it's nice to see others feel the same!

Sorry to hear she has an allergy to fish and fish oils. Seems quite common for most cats to have an intolerance to something I think. Give the Catz Fonefood a look up. It's very good. As is Feringa. It's like a thick pate consistency. Smells a bit though haha especially rabbit and parsnip flavour which they love. What brand do you get for venison? I haven't noticed it on zp just veal flavour. Unless it's because it's a different zp?

zp have the flavors of venison, lamb, lamb and rabbit and venison and fish. And now beef. I have not tried beef yet, but I will as soon I can get hold of it.

it´s a bit tricky to find grain free without too much vegetables or fruit that are without fish. I feed her part raw, part wet and as dry food I feed zp dry. The most important thing is that the itching has stopped, and that she feels and look well. Fortunately I can afford the higher cost of these foods. But not for a lot of cats.... so I´m only half crazy cat lady????

And yours ar intolerant as well. So many people almost don´t believe me when I tell them that cats can be allergic to fish.

Hopefully the grau-delivery will arrive tomorrow.

That is true. I had a quick look at catz finefood and it seems mostly meat and herbs. Few oils but I'm not sure whether you'd be ok with those. Trying mine with salmon and poultry tomorrow. Technically it's meat day not fish but it sounds like one they'd like :)

I do indeed believe you. Frankie can't eat beef and shows slight intolerance to turkey in large percentages in food. He threw up one time just minutes after eating some. So I have to look at the list for anything with beef. Phoebe is ok she eats anything and so far seems unaffected. I think Frankie's always had a sensitive gut. He had giardia when at the rescue and on and off diarrhoea issues since November last year. The last instant was May and since switching him to the new food he's only had one one-off incident. Chicken Lily's was the culprit. So that's on the blacklist haha ;)

Form catz finefood.

The lamb and rabbit flavour looks like it has no fish oils in.

As soon as I excluded everything with fish from her diet, she stopped scratching! But she eats everything. Today during our walk I found ripe blackberrys and raspberries. And everything I eat she wants. Raspberry was very good! And Blackberry was yummy! So now she eats berrys as well..... a lot of vitamins and fibrers i suppose?? Weird kitten! Lettuce is a big favorite as well....

I´ll try some of the brands later on.

I had a two year old female that I found in a  shelter. Unfortunately she had so many problems with her ears after living alone, outside during one cold winter, that I had to decide to let go to sleep, next month will be one year from that dreadful day. It´s a hard life for many of the stray kittens. Good to know that  one of them has found a home with you!

I'm sort to hear about your cat being pts. Sometimes it is the best and she wouldn't have felt anything. My Kippers anniversary is November 26th so that'll be one year too :( we planted a cherry tree in his memory and got a memorial plaque for underneath. You should do something to celebrate her life and focus on all the good memories :) maybe go and sit somewhere she used to like going :) I will plant something else I think.

Haha I currently have two rescue kittens. Though one suffering with ringworm. Horrid fungal infection... Taking a while to clear but seems much better. So the Rescue is taking care of them for me whilst away and treating them both for me. The problem originated with them so they were more than happy haha. Part of the reason they're on the diet they are is to give their developing immune system a good boost. Here is hoping. It's gone on 3-4 months now. Very tired :(

That's fun about your cat liking berries. They do eat allsorts. My old cat ate curry and mashed potatoes! But suppose the butter would have been tasty ;)
