There is this stay cat that lives around our neighborhood that I take care of. Mom and dad wont let me keep her but they let me feed her and things. She got pregnant and eventually got into our garage and gave birth there. We put them in a box with a blanket so they are warm and save (we also lay out food and water and a box for her to use the bathroom in close by). She gave birth yesterday around 9:00PM EST. The problem is, I felt of her belly and I feel something hard. It's scary because it feels like the outline of a kitten. She seems healthy and fine but I'm scared, what if she didn't give birth to the last one and one is still in there? Will she pass it on her own if there is one, or do I have to take her to the vet? I really can't afford to take her to a vet because my parents dont want to keep her but they have a heart and if she absolutely needs it we will think of something. I don't want her or her kittens to die or be sick. :(

The most important question is does she seem calm or is she in distress?

If she seems calm she is probably okay. It is not unusual for cats to take breaks between giving birth to kittens. While these breaks aren't usually this long, it is not yet time to panic if she does not seem to be in distress.

However, if she is in distress, she really should be taken to see a vet ASAP. Please keep an eye on her.

Sometimes the uterus can contract and be hard and feel like there is a kitten in there when there really isn't one.  Other times, there may be another kitten but it can be born as much as a whole day later.  As long as she is relaxed and comfortable, not panting or straining or acting restless, you can just wait and see.  For your own peace of mind, however, you can always take her and her babies to the vet for a "post partum checkup" just to make sure everything is all right.  If money is a concern and you can find a rescue group nearby, there may be someone in the group who lives not far from you and would be willing to come over and feel the mama cat's tummy and tell you if she thinks it's just the uterus or if she may have another kitten present.  It took me awhile in rescue before I stopped thinking the uterus was not another baby, so I do understand exactly where you are coming from.

Alright thank you guys so much. She seems to be acting just fine, maybe a little tired but not in distress. I'll keep a close check on her and the kittens to see if anything worrysome happens ^^

I had a cat had only two one time. One on one day, full term, the next a full 24 hours later. Both fine.  Have any of the litter so far been breech? How many are there so far? Has she eaten placentas? everything like that normal? washing babies, nursing?

Yes, one came out legs first and it took a little longer than the rest but she's fine. There are five. She's done everything normal like licking/nursing them and she ate the placentas. I checked on her today and she looked okay, but a little sleepy. The babies look okay too. I felt again and it still feels hard on her belly. I hope it's just her uterus because I haven't felt any movement like I did before she gave birth
