Mattie has been on antibiotics since last Friday. She had a dental cleaning and the vet told me continue the medicine through today and then stop. This morning, there was a big mess on her and in her cat cage, litter, etc. When I called the vet, his suggestion is come by and get Forti Flora to sprinkle her food or either give her some vanilla yogurt with the live cultures. I am just seeking some feedback as to what others have done. The vet said stop the antibiotics now. All feedback appreciated.

It cold be a reaction to the anitbiotic which may have imbalanced her GI tract. Stopping the Meds and adding fortiflora sounds like a smart thing to do.

I wonder if any probiotic is available from Wal Mart that might not cost as this Forti Flora stuff. It is close to $40 per box.

Hi @blueyedgirl5946

there are cheaper probiotics but my vet says that the only one with studies in cats is fortiflora but oyu can get a box of 30 on amazon for $18 and my vet has me only use about a 1/4 packet a day, so that would be 120 days at that dose.

Sorry, she needs it now. I can't wait until I can get it ordered and get it here at my house.

Ok I was just offering you options. You could always just ask your vet to give you a few packs until you could get a cheaper source online.

Or, you could try some human type probiotics (they generally come in stronger doses than for pets) available in any grocery store. I use a capsule form, open and sprinkle it on Ritz' food.
FortiFlora has some animal digest in it (the same stuff they put on kibble)--which is good to use if your cat's appetite has decreased because of the antibiotics or illness.
DO NOTE that most probiotics should be given two hours apart from the time you give antibiotics; otherwise, they counteract each other (that's the layman's explanation I understand, though there is probably a more technical reason).
