Hi everyone! Once again I'm in need of your amazing advice!

I have two cats, male, both shed like it's going out of fashion. They are both young, about one year old: one, the oldest and the one we adopted earlier, is a black longhair. The second one a white shorthair. As you can imagine, we practically roll in fur all day long, despite our best efforts.

When we adopted the longhair we bought a Furminator for longhair cats, and we loved it. Now, the damn thing broke: it fell from a bookshelf and off it goes the plastic component.

So, here's the thing: we need to buy a new one. We tried every kind of brush, comb, comb-glove, the Furminator is the only things that keeps the fur invasion at bay. But what do we buy? The one for longhair or the one for shorthair? Buying both would be too expensive.

A while ago, when I didn't need the information, I read somewhere that people found the shorthair version better for all types of fur length. Can any of you confirm this?

Thank you very much!

We use the long hair Furminator for both our longhair and short hair cats. I've never noticed it taking off more than it should from the short hair.  We use it 1-2 times a week.  His coat is as good looking as when we started using it, which is about 1-1/2 years (got it when we adopted the long haired one).  I don't think it's necessary to buy two.  Maybe just adding in an inexpensive good comb or brush?

Thanks for sharing your experience! We have a lot of different combs and brushes already, and I think we'll buy the longhair furminator again. After all it worked fine for us, and our shorthais has very thick fur and undercoat. Happy to read that it works fine for you as well!

Furminator is the best brush ever! My clothes and the sofa is more of less hair-free since I bought the short-haired version. And the cat seems to enjoy being brushed as well. Both win!

I use the one for long hair on both my longer haired kitty and my short hair.  In fact I have the one for long haired small dogs.  I was fed up with all the hair and my long haired kitty hating to be combed so I went to the pet store instead of ordering it.  They only had ones for dogs.  It works fine, I kind of suspect the only difference is the color of the handles.  My little long haired kitty actually likes being combed with it and she hated everything else I used.  She would often get so fed up with it just when I started that she would swat at it.
