Hi, welcome to TCS!  My first kitten was a solid white Persian, a gift from my aunt who was a breeder.  She was a living doll (my kitten, not my aunt
) both in appearance and purrsonality.

Welcome to TCS
! As suggested by @Feralvr  , you may want to start a thread about new kittens in the lounge. Why not post here to tell us more about yourself?

Hi, First off I want to say from as far back as I can remember my mother had a cat phobia. She was very scared of cats. We had good friends of the family who always had at least 3 cats in their home. When we visited my mother was very nervous if a cat came near here. She was always afraid that one would jump on her. We had dogs growing up but never cats.

When I was about 22 and had been out on my own for 4 years a friend of my mothers asked me if I would keep her cat temporarily because she was moving into  a new apartment and wanted to wait until she moved the cat in. This cat stayed in my walk in closet for about 2 weeks (cat's choice). Several times a day I would go into the closet to take care of the cat. The cat and I became friends. I realized while taking care of her that cats weren't scary as I was raised to believe.

So I don't remember how long after taking care of the friends cat that I adopted my very first kitten but I do know I was living in the same apartment. I named her
Shardai after a popular singer at the time. She was so loving. Shortly after adopting Shardai I adopted another kitten and I named him
Benson. Again after a musician. He was adorable and very mischievous.

I moved out of the apartment and into a house. Shardai got out by mistake and when she came back I picked her up and she became very upset it was obvious she was hurt. I took her to the vet and he told me she was bruised. She stayed under my bed for a few weeks after that. When she finally did come out she was never the same. The once very confident cat was now shy and more aloof.

Not long after I got the kittens I ended up hospitalized for allergy induced Asthma. The second time I was hospitalized I had to find new homes for Benson and Shardai. I promised myself to never go through that heart break again. I remained allergic to cats all my adult life.

Fast forward 25 years to last year in Sept when my now 9 y/o daughter wanted a kitten. We had 2 dogs that I had before she was even born. She had been wanting a kitten for a few years. I finally relented and we adopted an 8 y/o cat we named GiGi. The humane society said she was special needs because unless she ate special food she had loose stools.
Sadly I had to euthanize after 6 months of many vet visits for severe IBD  and failure to thrive. Very sad for my daughter and I.  Shortly after adopting GiGi we adopted a young cat we named Trinity. A few months later we rescued a 4 w/o kitten from a woman who found the kitten in the road. We named her Twilight. Then a few months after that we adopted a 6 m/o kitten and we named her Amber after the color of her eyes. She is a Tortie. Surprisingly my cat allergies are gone. I have not had any allergies other than seasonal allergies that I have always had. So we have our Dog Callie and our 3 cats Trinity, Twilight ,and Amber. Our other dog Summer went to the bridge last year at age 12.
