Is goats milk good for newborn kittens? I have a 12 day old kitten who I've been nursing with kmr lately he's not that intrested in it but I had some goats milk from my weening 4 week Olds and he loved it but didn't know if it had all what a newborn needs as far as nutritional value.

yeah it is good, don't feed your kitten with cow's milk because it can be dangerous for his stomach.

Goat milk formula is pretty safe for kittens!

yes! goats milk is good for newborn kittens. goats milk is often suggested for very young orphaned kittens.

Great. He's one of my easiest bottle kittens. Very clean and eats well. He was .4 oz when I got hI'm he's now .8 1/2. The other litter of 4 1/2 week olds the one isn't doing well. I think there is something wrong with his legs. We had to put his brother down for he was not well and two other ones died. He's very small compared to the oth er two and he doesn't walk right I feel horrible putting him down. He eats and drinks I guess only time will tell. He isnot gaining either he just stays the same. Ivery been giving him a/d with goats milk nutri cal and pedylite. He will eat on his own.

Like the others said - goat milk is in practice just fine.  Fresh goat milk is even better, but bottled or frozen are OK too.

Him not gaining doesnt sounds good.  Im not sure what you can change to try something else.   Lets speculate and think aloud.

Why are you giving him pedialyte?  I mean, pedialyte as such is better than just water, but why do you think he needs extra water?  does he tend to be dehydrated?

I mean, if he gets pedialyte instead of goat milk its not necessariyl good.

He does seem dehydrated. We have given him fluids Sq and he seems more perky. He just isn't thriving like the others. Hes had runny stools and he's very small looks about 2 weeks old when hes almost 5 weeks. He's been to the vet he thought the litter could have pan leuk they were on a weeks worth of albon as per the vet. Two from the litter died one I put down 2 days ago. This one seems to have some fight in him he doesn't seem to walk right.

I see.  Next try could be, to give the food more often.  How often do you give now?

I mean, the normal recommendations of every 3 hours are good and nice, IF they are stabilized.

as he is really not stabilized,  he should probably get more often.   Smaller portions if necessary, but more often...

Im not too optimistic, you may lose him yet even if he is a fighter.   So fight on, do your best and give him the chance he deserves - but be prepared for everything.

*vibes!*

I'm feeding about every 2 to 3 hours a mixture of ad wet with the goats milk and pedilite. I'm also twice a day giving him some nutrical. I have done lots of bottle babies and know how fast they can crash and some just can't thrive no matter how hard you try. Hopefully he will but not holding my breath.

Pedialyte is a nice way to dilute, if you need to dilute the food.

but if you add pedialyte to raise the water contend, as I know you do and he needs, you can perhaps manage to instead give some pedialyte between the feedings?   It will be of course more work for you...

the idea is he to give him more of food food when its meal time, as the volume he manages each time is limited. And these few drops of water will hopefully not influence on his hunger or ability to take food when its meal time.

As an idea?

Good luck!

He won't eat food unless it's watered down like slop he laps it. Should I just use the goats milk and ad and do the pedylite in between like you suggested. Today he ate dry royal canin baby cat that I soaked in goats milk.

That could be  an idea. Goat milk is surely good enough for it, unless its some obscure low fat variation, as bottled goat milk may be.   :)

As you surely weigh him every day, you will quickly notice any changes.

Royal Canin Baby Cat has a good renommé, for example our very experienced Catwoman707 likes it.  Perhaps the best dry food from RC.

Nourishing enough, and the pellets small enough also for little kittens...  Brw, their kmr milk is decent too.

Wait with this A/D for time being, use some RCBC instead..

So, yes try this too - a little in the beginning so he doesnt gets problems with his tummy - and follow up closely with weigh.

Proceed also with the nutri cal.

Good luck!

Still hanging in there thanks for asking. She still looks like a 2 week old kitten and they will be 6 weeks on Friday. I don't want to give up on her. She eats well and is gaining a little weight but my gut tells me something else is going on. I don't know what else to do. It's stressing me out and I'm sleep deprived. I also have a 2 week old kitten I'm bottle feeding and the 2 siblings to the other one. The third eyelids are exposed to which whenever any of my kittens had that they were sick. She won't use a litter box and doesn't play or run around just sleeps and she will eat and drink well.

it's just this one little girl, not her 2 siblings, that you're seeing the third eyelids on?

i'll see if a couple members with much experience with very young kittens have any suggestions. i agree that seeing the third eyelids doesn't sound like a good sign. @StefanZ, @catwoman707 -- may i ask for your experience for the OP (original poster)?

I have had some very sick, and/or malnourished kittens come to me in rescue.

It is not often that I see very young ones with their inner lids exposed however.

And yes, as @StefanZ

mentioned, I LOVE Babycat, and swear by it. I have seen nothing but dramatic results in turning around unhealthy kittens as well as a few adults I had to get some much needed weight on, including Baby, my former felv pos girl. It is truly the best. PLUS, it's got lots of fat and protein, lots of calories.

While I admire you not giving up, of course how could you, just stop caring for her right? No, we keep on and try what we can and hope for the best.

You can continue to do this and perhaps she will improve.

Antibiotics might be a good thing for her too.

However, I do suspect something going on inside of that little bod of hers.

It makes me want to say that felv positive is a possibility.

In my experience, the inner lids showing speaks to me, saying clearly there is something amiss. The lack of play is another.

If she were with me, I would feed her good quality canned pate food with babycat and kmr mashed in it. I would likely get her on antibiotics, and her poop is still runny?

If vet suspects coccidia then albon will take literally months to work for her, her immune system is fighting it's own fight already, and albon only inhibits the growth of coccidia. If he will give you ponazuril that will be a big help.

Did she come with lots of fleas? Are her gums good and pink?

Has she been sick otherwise? URI, flea anemia, has she been dewormed yet?

She has been on albon and antibiotics since I got her 2 weeks ago. 3 of her litter mates died with the same kind of symptoms to be honest I thought she would too but she wants to fight. Vet thinks it's viral like pan leuk. She's had liquid poos since before I got her. Her gums are a normal color. I've been giving her baby cat wet mixed with goats milk she won't eat kmr. She will eat dry baby cat as well. How do you know if euthanasia is best. Obviously I don't want to do it but I don't want the poor thing to suffer either. Vet said there is not much more to do other than what I'm doing. I though fiv or felv. My other litter I had before this 3 acted the same as this on tho not as small but had the diah and 3rd eyelids and wernt active and had fiv.

Today her poos are normal but I still worry about her weight she weighs less than my 2 week old kitten both siblings are over a pound. Still eating and drinking. She did seem a bit pale to me. I have her at the vets to see if there is anything else.

She certainly could have panleuk. I've sure had my share of it this year myself.

How long ago did her sibs die? With panleuk, once signs of illness set in, it's a matter of days, literally.

The smaller the faster too, so I am thinking not panleuk but perhaps felv or like.

If she has had diarrhea for 2 weeks and not vomiting, and still eats, that doesn't sound like panleuk either.

After much discussion with the vet we decided that it was in her best intrested to be humanly euthanized. He did not think after this many weeks and showing very little improvement was she going to over come whatever it was that she had. Thank you everyone for you help with her.
