Two days ago my husband came home with a box, and inside was a kitten, est. at 2 1/2 weeks old.  He told me he was working construction and his boss came across a litter of kittens, immediately decided to pick 4 for himself, then left one alone.  My husband felt sorry for the little one so he took her.  I'm pretty aggravated at his boss, but I need to take care of this little kitty...but feel a bit lost.

Feeding her isn't actually an issue for me. The issue for me is her bowel movements.  She hasn't had one since I got her.  She has been peeing just fine, and she's a very spirited kitty (she's constantly on the move!), but she's not pooping.  I was told to rub her bottom gently to initiate a BM but she struggles and whines and I'm having absolutely no luck.  Today I noticed that maybe her anal area is bulging out slightly, looks a bit brown in the middle...I can't figure out if she can't poop or what.  I'm kind of really concerned :/  I'm very paranoid about her health.

I've been trying to get her to a vet ASAP but all the places around here won't let me go in any earlier than 8AM Thursday.  I live in a very rural area so my options for vet care are limited.

Is there anything I can do? :/

There are several tricks.

One is, held her in your left hand. Put her rear end in under running warm water, and tap with your right forefinger on her private areas.   Usually works very nicely.  YOu avoid also she gets sore because of extensive stimulating.

Its of course essential you dry off her afterwards.  Its nice and cozy in the washing room and where she is afterwards, and no draught.

Another tip may be to add 3-4  drops  of  a good food oil, alike  coldpressed olive oil or coldpressed rapeseed oil. (=kanold).

Minerale oil is even more potent, but begin with these food oils above.

How is it, does she seems to be dehydrated?  Is the pee almost entirely clear just weak yellowish?  or is it dark yellow, almost brown?

If dark, she must get more fluids.  Homemade pedialyte is good, or someting similiar.

If its not dehydration, good.  Yet, its common diluting the kmr or goat milk some, may help for constipation.  Its really the first to try.

If the bottom is much sore, its possible to have something put in on.  Try some nice mild baby oil.

Good luck!

That's an awful young kitten. You have your work cut out for you nursing her to full term. I only know of lots of soft stimulation to her entire body helps get all her organs working good and stimulate's growth. At only 3 weeks old she should be less than a pound an just starting to move about. No real poo should be coming out this young as she would normally be on only mothers milk during the first month. Be gentle and keep her warm as she is best sleeping on a warm heating pad as her mom would have given her a warm cuddly spot against her belly to sleep. Good luck.

It's so sad that the boss would take 4 and leave one all alone.  Does the boss know how to raise kittens who should still be nursing on their mom?  Obviously he doesn't know how much better it is for them to grow up with other kittens either.  Maybe he would be willing to give one of his to you to raise, to keep your little one company.  If there are rescue groups in your area, maybe they have a nursing mom who would take on this little guy.  A lot of our mama cats are happy to take on extra babies.  Babies raised by mama cats are much healthier than babies raised by humans.  I feel badly for the feral mama cat who will return to find her babies gone.  Four kittens is a big load for your husband's boss to handle, so maybe you can get those into a rescue foster home as well.  They would probably be glad to give them back to him when they are old enough and vetted. In the meantime, maybe you can give him a copy of this video on raising orphan kittens to help him, so the others don't die.  There are lots of videos about raising orphan kittens here, and some folks would rather watch a video than read instructions.

I have been told his boss is making his kids look after them.  This man has no sense so pretty much working out anything with him is a lost cause.  I'm still pretty infuriated that he would just randomly pluck out the kittens in the first place instead of leaving them alone...nevermind the fact that he would just leave one cat alone because he didn't like it.  I don't want this kitten to be raised alone from her siblings either :/ Makes me a bit sad.  I think she's the runt of the litter.

Anyways, the kitty has started pooping!  Mixed a little bit of pedialyte with her formula and it seemed to work a charm.  She is headed to the vet in 5 hours.  I really hope I can get her set up with a foster mama as well because I really need the sleep x_x  This is a bit too much for me to handle.

I know how you feel! my husband found 3 newborn kittens abandoned too and we raised them. It was so hard! we spend like two weeks sleeping very badly! but 2 kittens survived and now are 2 months! it's possible to raise them without a mother cat but is not easy.

Please don't give up on her!

Dont worry, in another 2 weeks he will be sleeping through the night completely, and in a couple of weeks after that, all you have to do is provide wet food and scoop litter, he will feed himself.
