I have talked about my IBD cat here before. We've discovered that one of her big triggers is chicken, and that beef causes much milder but still noticeable upset. She can have turkey, but it seems to be too close to chicken for her to have large amounts. I try to avoid feeding them fish because of the health concerns with mercury and such.

While I'm still keeping her to a mostly limited diet (Natural Balance Venison LID, mostly), she seems to do fine with a can of something different each week, as long as it's a novel protein. It also keeps her more interested in eating, since she's not a fan of pates and prefers chunky or shredded cat food. When she doesn't have any variety, she starts picking and eating the bare minimum to not be hungry, and then she begins to lose weight.

I've been slipping in a can of By Nature venison or rabbit stew. She's very much more interested in the rabbit (I think because it's a different flavor, all she eats otherwise is venison), but it's been out of stock or way out of my price range everywhere I order for about three months now. I've kept getting her the venison, but she's losing interest, and the duck has really low ratings.

I realize that with the number of limits, there may not be any foods out there that will work, but I figured I'd try. Anyone know of any chunky or shredded wet foods without chicken, beef or fish?

Nature's Instinct has a line of Pride foods that are "flaked" or "minced" -- the rabbit doesn't have beef, chicken, or fish. I've never tried the Pride foods on our cats so don't know chunky or shred-like they are. Good luck!

Lotus Just Juice pork stew is shredded pork with no other meat. My cats love it. Lotus also has a shredded turkey stew, which may or may not work for your cat.

Nature's Variety Instinct canned is not chunky or shredded, but it does not contain any gums so does not have the consistency of a true pate. They have a limited ingredient line of single proteins and minimal ingredients in lamb, duck, and turkey. Additionally, their regular line includes rabbit (my cats love), pork, and venison.

Pure Vita makes a shredded turkey stew, but that might not work.

ZiwiPeak makes varieties in lamb, venison, and rabbit/lamb. I don't know the consistency, as I just purchased a can of the rabbit/lamb to try.

We also avoid fish and my cat has had trouble with chicken, so I have similar food restrictions. For a while, all he ate was Nature's Variety Instinct. Now we're expanding to include the other brands listed above, and we are also adding some commercial raw: Rad Cat turkey, Primal Pronto rabbit, and Stella & Chewy Absolutely rabbit.

My non-pate-eater likes the Pride line- The duck and rabbit have no chicken or beef, but do have chicken eggs.  The flaked versions are more chunky than the minced.

Nutro Natural Choice has turkey and duck flavors with no chicken, beef, or fish.  My cat prefers the "flaked" variety in this brand as well.

The Wysong Au Jus varieties are simple proteins, but I'm not sure if they are pate....also they are not complete foods, so couldn't be fed without supplements as the main food. I have tried the chicken STEW, and it is chunks, but have not tried the Au Jus line.

Nature's Logic rabbit cans have no chicken, beef or fish, but again....I don't know if it's pate or chunky!  :(

When I had Boo on a trial diet free of chicken, beef, or fish, I stuck with pates for the most part. I found that many of the flaked and chunky varieties used "dried egg product" or "dried egg whites" or "egg whites" or some variation of such to form the shape. I remember reading that eggs could also be a problem for kitties sensitive to poultry, so I tried to stay away from eggs, too. As it turns out, he didn't like anything with eggs in it anyway.

If your cat doesn't have a problem with eggs, then Precise Holistic Grain-Free Flaked Pork canned food might work. Only one store near me carries it, but you could also buy single cans to try at ItsAPetsLife.com.

I understand with an IBD kitty that keeping her eating is so important, especially if she's losing weight. Just keep in mind that the shredded and chunky foods tend to be much lower in fat and calories than the denser pates.

Thank you all for the advice! I will try some of these. I'm a little nervous with the Nature's Instinct, as I've had some bad experiences with their food, but I might give them a try anyway, because when it's a good batch the cats love it.

I'm just a bit worried because she's been so fickle lately. She's a fickle cat anyway, and she has not been a fan of the switch to wet food, and she has some respiratory issues that I think are making it hard to smell/taste food right now anyway, but I need to find something she'll eat more than a few bites of. I'm about to just get some chicken-free dry food for her and my other cat to share, since appetite is a problem for both of them (Sparrow because of IBD, Klio because she's on fluoxetine and it kills her appetite). Which sucks, because they both really need to be eating wet food.

I'll try some of this stuff too, though, maybe if I find something she loves I can just give her dry food as a treat instead of as one of her meals each day.
