Hello,

A little over 6 weeks ago I took on ringworm kittens. They were almost hairless it was so bad. Two weeks ago we had a culture done again to test them, it came back positive yesterday.

They are on terbinafine and have been for a month. They have lime sulfur baths every 5 days (although I stopped for two weeks as recommended by the vet while they were growing the culture.)

The vet told me today that they can tell it is ringworm by just looking at the agar plate, is this possible? I was under the impression it had to be examined under a microscope to tell for sure.

Is terbinafine good for treating ringworm?

Anything else I can be doing?

Thank you.

I have very little experience with ringworm but for now I'd recommend just following your vets advice.  I hope they will be better soon

Hopefully someone with more experience will be by soon to help more!!

Ringworm is one of those things that is so puzzling.  I had three hairless kittens, too.  Two recovered after two dips; the other took another whole month.  I don't think they were on oral meds but my vet recommended they get some sunlight, so I would put them on the patio in a crate.  I put them in the shade - there's still sun (an UV light) coming through.

If outside is not an option, ask your vet about a UV lamp, maybe?

Good luck.  I hate ringworm!  The good news is, the kittens' immune system will soon be strong enough to fight it off.
