Hello! My cat has just recently gone to the vet because she had allergies and I brought up the fact that she pukes more than a usual cat, the vet suggested a very specific kind of cat food (sheba pate cat food *turkey or chicken only*.) We started my little Bella on this food about a week and a half ago, and just yesterday she puked up this light brown liquid for the first time, then today, she did it for the second time. I am becoming very worried. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?

Is she pooping and peeing fine, like normal?  Was she checked for an obstruction?  Does she throw up daily?  Is the vomit the color of her food?  Is it simply liquid or are there chunks of food in it?

You might need to try something like a limited ingredient food such as Natural Balance's Limited Ingredient Food.  http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/product.aspx?ProductId=88   Or, you can ask the vet for a prescription food such as Royal Canin's Gastrointestinal HE food.

Hello PrincessBella,

I'm sorry to hear about your cat. My cat also was very sick in April and was vomiting everything she ate for 2 days until we took her to the vet and found out she was severely dehydrated and had an allergic reaction to an ingredient in her blue buffalo or science diet food. A lot of vets don't really know about good cat food. For example, most vets tell you to feed your cat Science Diet, Purina or Royal Canin, mostly because these companies pay off vet schools to push their products. Luckily my vet that I had recommended to me Tiki Cat food which was absolutely the best food I found for my cat because it has only a single animal protein and no weird additives. Before my cat vomited every 2-4 days and now its maybe 10-14 days (mostly because she's a long hair cat and has furballs).

Sheba Chicken Cat Food:

Chicken, Chicken Broth, Meat By-Products, Chicken Liver, Poultry By-Products, Natural Flavor, Guar Gum, Added Color, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Minerals (Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Magnesium Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Zinc Sulfate, Iron Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate), Fish Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Vitamins (Choline Chloride, Thiamine Mononitrate [Vitamin B1], Vitamin E Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride [Vitamin B6], Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex [Source of Vitamin K Activity]), DL-Methionine, Salt, Taurine.

Looking at the ingredients for Sheba, they seem actually ok-ish but there are a few ingredients that might've had a bad reaction with her such as the added color, multiple meat sources, or salt. Another ingredient that I really hate is the Menadione Sodium Bisulfite which is known to cause anemia in cats.

I'm not a vet but after spending countless hours researching cat food, I would recommend possibly changing her food to something else. I know Sheba is very affordable but before you end up spending $700 dollars like I did at the vet and causing your cat pain, I would suggest maybe giving her something a bit more simple or holistic, maybe try to make your own food, or do a 50/50 diet to save money. Since my cat also has a sensitive stomach, finding a single animal source helped her big time. She eats only the plain chicken, tuna, or salmon cans and she looks and is acting way healthier.

I hope I helped. Best wishes to you and your cat!!!

Been thru a lot of that this year. Researched MSG hidden ingredients and many are in most canned catfoods.

[not to mention the 'by-products'] Not all expensive brands are without them...most are loaded.

Carrageenan, guar gum [and it's cousins], and yucca are excitotoxins/neurotoxins. Avoid them.

Welcome to The Cat Site, PrincessBella!

I second the TIki Cat recommendation: their chicken-based foods are in our cats' canned rotation, too. They like them and do well on them. One of our cats also has a particularly sensitive stomach (they're both Siamese mixes and our vet warned us they're prone to digestive problems) so it's great that Tiki agrees with both of them.

It sounds like Bella's issues are most likely allergy-related but one other thought, PrincessBella. Does Bella often throw up when she's hungry/waiting to be fed? I ask because one of our cats used to occasionally barf up light-brown, frothy puddles (no food) first thing in the morning. She's almost completely stopped since I started giving them high-calorie (Nutro Natural Choice, some of the ones without carrageenan) foods at bedtime. On the allergy/sensitivity side, I also found that foods with potato ingredients seemed to make her barf. They are long gone!

Good luck!  I hope Bella feels better soon!
