Hello,

Yesterday as i was cleaning my kittens letterbox i realized that the urine clump was a weird different color. Well there were three clumps and two were normal color.. the third was a weird darkish color.. red.. brown... im not sure. Im using the OKO plus clumping litter so i cant really tell. Is this normal? A bit worried. Oh ya, I only have one kitten.

I would monitor the situation. If it happens again, I'd probably take her to the vet just to make sure everything is okay.

Hopefully others will chime in with more advice!

If you're concerned that your kitten may be peeing blood you can switch out the litter for shredded paper or puppy pads to see the color better. Just a thought. Hope kitty is ok :)

Ok, This morning i cleaned my kittens litter box and there was a clump of urine. The color was lighter then the urine clump i scooped out yesterday. As soon as I cleaned the litter box he jumped in again. The clump this time was more of a normal color. I did snap some pics. I hope this doesn't gross people out ( I know some people have a problem with their pets poop and pee, me on the other hand have no problems with them at all as I do not get grossed out easily so apologies beforehand to anyone who gets grossed out or uncomfortable)

This is the first one i scooped this morning (The odd color one)

This is the one more of the normal color

Should I be concerned? To be honest the only different thing he had was I gave him some Fussie cat wet food and he had some catnip, but that was like 3 days ago. Other than that his diet has been normal.

I would appreciate any advice/opinions. Thanks.

He totally refuses to use anything but litter. When I got him neutered, he nearly peed on my blanket because he had shredded paper for litter. I had to quickly change it to his normal litter. Then only he used his litter box.

Are you sure it's urine and not poop?  It could be runny diarrhea.
Very sure its pee and not poop because I cleared his litter box and his poop seem usual.

I am wondering if the urine is just more concentrated.  With people the first time we pee in the morning is darker and more concentrated than as the day goes on.  Maybe it is the same for cats.

I think its the same for cats.. read somewhere that morning urine is more concentrated but I would assume it should be most mornings? I've had him for nearly 7 months now and its the first time i'm seeing it like that. That's why i'm kinda worried..

if he continues to have this maybe he should have the vet check his urine.  How old is he?

Will be bringing him to the vet soon .. Just in case for a check up. But I just wanted to know if anyone has gone though a similar situation and if its an emergency and he need medical help as soon as possible. He is around 8 months old.

If he's not straining to go to the potty, going more frequently, hopping in and out or the box, or if he's not eliminating outside the box, I think you'll be fine.  Keep a very close eye on him and if you notice any change in litter box habits or if he becomes lethargic and starts to hide, then get him to the vet immediately.

He does not strain or go more frequently as far as I can see.. Neither does he jump in and out of the litter box. If he jumps in, he only leaves after he is done. He seems more quiet (not sure if he is suddenly a good boy or he is not well). No more pushing things down in the middle of the night. He plays as usual. Eats as usual. But he does seem to be wheezing, coughing, sneezing a lot (a lot as in maybe once in a day? i'm just associating the noises to what seems familiar..?) His body doesn't seem to be extraordinarily hot or cold...

Just a little confused.

I will be visiting the vet in like 2 weeks time. Hopefully all goes well.

Update: Brought him to the vet. Got a check and the vet said he was fine.. Hmmm.. its still a mystery.

Anyways, I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to reply and give your feedback. I really really appreciate it.

I shall be keeping an eye on him in case it happens again. Thanks again for the replies.
