Hi everyone, I am new to this site and so far I think it is fab!

Up until Thursday I had three cats and a kitten, sadly I lost my beautiful Harley to a freak unexplained illness which has left me paranoid and terrified something will happen to the others and it is from this I came across this site.

I look forward to becoming an active member!

Hi, welcome!

I'm very sorry to hear about Harley, and hope that you're able to find some answers. Have the other cats been vetted recently, or was Harley sent for necropsy? That may help find something that may not have turned up in test results.

Hi

I have two boys Alfie and Gizmo, who are 10, then there was Harley who was 7 and finally Tybalt who is 14 weeks. They have all had regular vet checks and were all given their annual health check in July and given the all clear.

Harley started showing symptoms of gagging on Wednesday evening so I took her to the emergency vet who gave her a full check and found nothing apart from the fact she had a sore throat and it was swollen. They gave her some anitbiotics, painkillers and anti-inflammatories and told me to bring her back the next day for a mild sedation to check her throat she said she thought she had some food stuck but as she was still eating, drinking and purring that she was not showing any signs of illness. She was fine over night even playing with the kitten and when i took her to my vet the next day i was not to concerned and neither was the vet. She took her out and gave her some gas to sedate her and then x ray her, seconds after her x ray she simply stopped breathing. They did everything to save her with no luck. she was only 7

Yes she has had a necropsy as the vet was worried about my other 3. The x ray showed a blockage in her wind pipe.

However the necropsy results casued even more questions, the blockage was mucas, like a mucas plug. Over an estimated 24 hours it had built up and sadly blocked her windpipe. The vet has no idea what casued it, no sign of poison, allergy nothing! she has referred it to a number of other vets with no answers so far.

I am so paranoid about the others, they have all been checked and are fine but it does not stop me worrying
