For the past week I have kept my cat in my bedroom (due to her upcoming due date, and the other cat and dog in the house) she has her litter, food, water and I have set up 2 boxes (under the bed) with towels and newspaper in them as well as emptying out my bottom draw (as she showed interest in going in there, clawing and what not) and putting a towel and newspaper lining the bottom.

Despite all this she keeps going into tiny spaces, making it awkward for her to even move. I am worried she is going to hurt herself so I have blocked this off.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

hi and welcome to TCS!

i don't have experience with pregnant cats, but i'm sure someone who does have experience will be along shortly.

i'll see if i can attract the attention of someone with experience in this area. @StefanZ, @Willowy -- may i ask for your experience for the OP (original poster)?

do you have a small closet that you could place a box (or even a laundry basket) in for your girl? you could even set up a couple more boxes for her to choose from.

Hi!
I was terrified that my queen would have her kittens outside or somewhere in my room that would be hard for her to move in. I thankfully didn't have to do much as she had them on my bed. If I were you I would make a nesting box for her in a closet. If you can't do that then I would make up a nesting box and the put a blanket or towel and put it halfway over the box. Then tuck the sides and bottom under it. That will make a little place for her to feel like she is hiding. I do that with my cat now so she doesn't try and move the babies. This is my opinion though someone else might know of a better way to handle this. I hope your queen has them in a safe place!

You got good advices.  the disadvantage with nest under the bed, you wouldnt see much, not be able to easily reach in there...  But if yount have a closet or similiar, I understand there arent so many alternatives.

But as Ryan Glenn suggested, YOU can make  a hidey for her.

I think most of those who dont have a natural closet,  use some sort of big cardboard boxes, and make a  nice nest from them.

You have suitable links re the self pregnancy and labor?  @Choji94e

I did notice she was trying to get into my wardrobe so I picked up any dragging clothes to prepare it. There is a lot of old worn clothes at the bottom so I just put a towel over the top of them and she can rummage if she likes :) Which she did yesterday and this morning.

But now my boyfriends uncle is coming in to the bedroom and wants to move floorboards and stuff to set up a wire or something. I think this would stress out my cat. Shall I move her to another room to avoid it or will that stress her out too?

I also had another question can cats hold off on giving birth or does it just happen?

Thank you for all your replies and advice!!

Cats can somewhat wait with the birth.   But best is your uncle forgets his plans for the time.  If it isnt something really necessary.

Here are some links you may find useful:

Most of these links have been readied by our forumist  Red Top Rescue:

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

If she feels threatened then she can wait, but you don't want her to do that. I had to worry that my queen would do that if my dog came in the room. Like StefanZ said, I would ask your uncle to wait. If he insists then put her in another room she is used to. If she does seem upset then just sit with her.

Sorry it is a bit blurry... Choji started having contractions at 23:11 last night and gave birth to the last one at 2:03am (1 grey (boy) 4 black (as far as I know girls). She is happily nesting with her kittens at the moment, although the grey kitten is very greedy in getting as much milk as he can!! I am so proud of her although she panicked at the beginning we managed to calm her down in the end, and she acted like a pro!! Well done Choji :) <3
