Accidentally I placed an order with an online pet supply to purchase Taste of the Wild and Canidae.  Then after I went to another site to compare costs, I saw all the warnings since these are made by Diamond.  I looked up the Class Action Lawsuits and freaked, cancelled my order.

I want to order now Orijen "Six Fish Grain Free" dry and then Evangers "Salmon" wet.  My 6 month old is having GI issues with anything with feathers, gluten or grain in his diet.  I thought by combining the Orijen with has all the essential vitamins in it and then giving him the wet which is nothing but Salmon, that I might be able to calm down his GI tract and cover all his needs.

I just don't know what else to do.

Thank you.

Hello CatPak
Natures Variety Limited diets for Lamb and Rabbit are good considerations, however, expensive to feed two kittens, however, I added this to my list and will consider this tomorrow when I make the order.

Thanks for your suggestion :-)

Question about reaction to anything with feathers.... if egg is in the mixture, is there a connection there?

Thank you for your time :-)

There certainly can be a reaction to eggs if the cat has a protein intolerance to the egg source.

I have a 2-yr-old who is severely allergic to chicken. He is also allergic to chicken fat and chicken eggs (even to the point he had an allergic reaction to his FVRCP vaccine...they use chicken eggs to make the vaccine, similar to our Flu vaccines.)

CatPak ~  Thank you for sharing information about the FVRCP vaccine, didn't know about the egg factor in that.  Chewy.com was the one that raised the issue of not buying any food with eggs in it, if Rocky is having a reaction to anything with feathers in it.  Had no idea.  I was looking at another product to buy and everything they offered had consomme in the ingredients.  Looked that up and sure enough, consomme is made with eggs.

**CORRECTION**
It's the RABIES vaccine that uses egg. Simba had vomiting spells after this vaccine.

Simba also had an anaphylactic reaction to FVRCP. That vaccine is made using rodent liver or kidney (can't remember which one.)

Thanks Bonepicker ~  Tiki has the consomme and that is made with eggs, in all their products.  I got excited about Tiki until I looked up how consomme is made.  It's a broth but strained thru eggs.

CatPak ~  After Stella got her FVRCP, Rabies and the injectible antibiotic, within 3 hours of bringing her home she developed seizures, so not sure what caused that.  I haven't seen anymore since then and never before then. But thank you for letting me know. My state requires the Rabies vaccine, it's a state law, unfortunately. I'm going to look into this, thank you for the update !!  However, it's not Stella that has the food intolerance/allergy to anything feathers, it her litter mate. If it's not one it's the other one, LOL.

Rabies vacc is required here too. The plan for next year is to Pre-med Simba with fluids, cerenia and Benedryl (both injected.) He will stay at the vet for 2 hrs to monitor his condition. If he has another reaction we will have to reevaluate.

As a note, Simba (indoor only) is a formal feral; and, while his demeanor has greatly improved he is a bit temperamental and he is a bite risk. So, him not getting the Rabies vaccine is not something I take lightly...having to quarantine him at a vet if he were to bite wouldn't be good.

What was the initial reaction to the rabies vaccine?  Have you been successful in treating Simba in the past with the pre-vaccine efforts?

Why would you need to quarantine Simba should he bite someone?  If he has been vaccinated against Rabies for several years, he wouldn't pose a risk as long as he was indoors.....

The law is if they are not up-to-date on the vaccine and the cat bites and breaks the skin, there is grounds to have him quarantined. We use the PureVax Rabies vaccine which only has a 1 year duration (though it likely provides protection for a longer period of time.)
He will no longer receive the FVRCP vaccine.
If he has another reaction to the Rabies, even though he gets Pre-med, we can have him exempt from the Rabies on medical grounds; but, he is still subject to the quarantine rules should he bite.

No, he has not received Pre-medding prior to a vaccine yet. He won't be due for his next Rabies until next year.

I do have another cat that had a reaction 2 yrs ago. We Pre-medded him this year and he did great.

I would suggest you only get 1 vaccine at a time. Wait at least 1 week (preferable 2) in between giving the next vaccine.

Here in Virginia, we can get a waiver for a Rabies vaccine but that doesn't exempt a pet from quarantine should someone get bitten.

My cats both got the Pure Vax Rabies Vaccine too.

With Stella, I will not give her another FVRCP and will watch her next year.  She did get the Cerenia with her Rabies and FVRCP.  She was fine with her previous 2 FVRCP, so thinking her seizure could have been from the Cerenia or the Rabies Vaccine.  She got only the one year.  In Virginia the vets used to give the 3 year Rabies but then changed it to the one year.
