First off, please forgive me for venting.

We all got to work this morning and my boss tells us all that our end of the year bonuses are not going to be as large as they have in the past.

Then, we have been looking for a new insurance carrier and I found one that is much cheaper than what we are paying now for better coverage and we could even add dental (and it would still be cheaper).
He asked me what it would be without dental. I asked him why he wouldn't provide dental when we would still see such a savings and he just shrugged his shoulders and said that we don't have it now.

I was very disappointed in him and I told him that he was making the people in this business have the lowest moral ever. We are a service organization and if the people in your organization have no moral, and start dreading going to work, how is that going to serve your interest? This owner is the son of the previous owner and sure wish his Dad was still running the business.

Sorry this is so long, but it has a very bad day.

Nora, I'm so sorry! In my business we come across what were family owned business all the time, and the problem you're having with the son is, unfortunately, usually the case. I have no words of wisdom for you.

But I think you SO did the right thing telling him what you did! It's really encouraging to know there are people out there standing up for themselves and their co-workers.

Is there anyone else of "equal" position - in a position to speak to this guy about morale? If several of you seemingly independently talk to him, perhaps he'll do the right thing? It's the only thing I can come up with!

Moral can be a really big issue and if he isn't careful he will lose people to other jobs and just extra sick time! Sorry you had a rough day.

Today is much better. Yesterday afternoon I talked to one of our technicians. He is an ex-marine and is one of the employees that my boss really respects and likes. He agreed to go in and talk to the boss.

Today he took a deep breath and asked te boss if they could talk. The talked for a while and then they asked me to join in on the discussion. We had a great talk about how we can save money and how we could make more money. I talked about being a service company and if our service people are not happy and depressed about their job situation, it is going to come out in their work.

I don't know what is going to happen, but I thought the conversation was so profitable and maybe he saw things in a different way and maybe walked a mile in the technician's shoes (if you know what I mean.)

Thank you for being a support system. It was a very upsetting day and it did help to come to the board.

Business decissions really suck. Especially lately. I think morale is suffering in jobs all over the country right now.

No companies give a crap about their employees anymore... I sit next to a guy that does my same job but worked here back when they payed a decent amount... he makes like 175% of what I make...

...and I just got a $.17 raise with a GOOD review...

...and the benefits completely suck!

Be glad you HAVE a job!!! I just got laid off today from a job I have had for 14 years (even though I knew it was coming) because my company is going to Mexico where labor is cheaper....YAAAAY NAFTA!. (Free Trade Agreement, which should never have passed IMO)

If this keeps up Americans will have NO jobs left!!!

I understand... they're in the process of moving my job overseas too. Dell which used to be done by my company has been moved to India and they're opening centers in the Philipines and India and elsewhere for my account. Soon my job will be no more...

BTW, sorry to hear you got laid off. Hopefully you can find a job at a company that cares about their employee's welfare soon!
