Nel got spayed today along with recieving her rabies, FeLv and FVRCP+CL vaccines, as well as a steroid shot for her "rodent ulcers".

It has been 4 hours since we picked her up from the Vet and she was more awake then than she is now. She is still trembling and pretty groggy. Glen took her out of her carrier and set her on the bed with us. She stayed with us for a short time then tried to get up so I put her back in her carrier. When putting her back in she cried out once then proceeded to hiss oncr and growl. I am about to give her her first dosage of pain medication since what she recieved at the Vet.

Is the trembling normal? The Vet said it was but I had thought she wouldn't be by now. This is the first female cat I have had spayed so I am not sure how she will heal compared to my males when they were neutered.

Any advice? Thank you!

What kind of pain med do you have? A common form is buprenex/buprenorphine which is a liquid that gets absorbed by the mouth lining. If you have pills, it may difficult to get her to swallow them unless you are good at administering them.

Poor baby has had a lot done to her today, so it could be any number of things affecting her. I would definitely keep her confined for now and monitor her closely and speak with the vet as necessary. A spay is much more invasive than a neuter, and recovery time will be longer.

Tramidol pill form. 1/4 pill 1-3 times daily as needed.

I called the Vet she said to try crushing her pill into some wet food. But right now she won't eat. Guess I'll have to wait until morning... but she will be in a lot of pain then I would think?

She's been sniffing the food and taking a few licks every now and then. I was sure to add extra water since she hasn't drank since last night. Hopefully this graduates toward her eating!

Well, she is semi-awake. She sat up and groomed herself and then I managed to get her to eat a few treats.

Still no pain meds. Will try in the morning.

A lot of times animals have low body temps during and after gas anesthesia which causes them to wake up slower. I would heat a towel in the dryer and put it in the carrier with her just in case.

Good morning from kitty!

She slept through the night I woke up to her hopping on the bed and a cold nose in my face. She took her antibiotic easily and then ate some kibble. Didn't realize we were out of wet food so I need to go to town to get some this afternoon so that I can give her her pain meds.

She used the litter box finally. I have one with a lid and she wouldn't use it until I took the lid off. So, mid-poop I put it back on.

I wouldn't worry about pain meds.  Kitties are very good at self-limiting when they are in pain and many times spays and neuters don't even need pain meds.  None of mine get pain meds for s/n.

stephanietx stephanietx this is the first occasion where I was given pain meds for a spay/neuter. When our boys got neutered it was optional, we said no. Nel's take-home package just came with them.

She seems to be doing just fine [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Keep her inside she might be licking feet transmitting to her mouth sores. Feed wet food it might be the dry causing mouth sores
She has eaten a mixture of both wet and dry since she was a kitten. They only started appearing after she was one year old. I never considered about her licking her paws then licking her mouth. The problem with EGC/Rodent Ulcers is that they do not know definitively what the cause is. Unfortunately, this is not my house so I can't keep her inside 24/7 however, she will not be going outside until she is healed.

It's been two full days since her spay. Should her incision look like this? The blue I know is left over from the surgery. She was spayed with a laser and they did "under-the-skin" stitches so that she could not pull them out. My concern is that the folded over skin appears to be separating. I don't know if this is part of the healing process or if she has managed, somehow, to pull it apart while grooming.

Thoughts?

Sigh, my poor girl. She wants to go outside and play so badly. She is not used to being kept inside this long! Going on four days and she is probably going nuts lol.

Keep her inside and she'll soon turn into an indoor kitty. :)  Her incision looks pretty good to me.

It's sort of lumpy... any idea why that might be? She goes back to the Vet on the 29th for her second steroid shot, so, if it isn't healed by then the Vet will notice. Of course, I'll take her back sooner if needed.

Does it feel dry and kind of hard?  It looks like it's healing.
