In the process of shopping for the bovine lactoferrin I usually buy for my herpes kitty, I came across this:

This is a pretty good deal at $45 per pound versus the approx. $20 for 60 capsules I pay for the lactoferrin.

I know lactoferrin is a component of colostrum.  Has anyone used a bovine colostrum powder or capsule instead of the bovine lactoferrin?  If so, have you had good results, and at what dosage?

Any info would be appreciated!

I should mention, in case it would be relevant, that my herpes kitty is also a urinary blockage kitty.  He's been happily blockage free for a bit over a year now, but was hospitalized for a couple days last year.

I decided not to take the chance with the bovine colostrum unless I'm able to get more information.  But I did find another bovine lactoferrin that I had never seen before, so thought I'd mention it here.  I think the Jarrow lactoferrin is the most commonly used brand...I found it here and have been using it for some time.  I found one by Nutricology though, in 350 mg capsules (so roughly three doses per capsule), 120 capsules per bottle.  I was able to find it for $34.99 plus $5.99 shipping, but then with a $5.00 off coupon code, so basically about $36.00 for 120 three-dose caps (as opposed to $21.00 for 60 two-dose caps of the Jarrow).  The other nice thing about it is that they state that it comes from "range-grazed cattle", which I realize isn't a label claim that is regulated, but I hear it's a good brand name so I'm hoping the claim is true.  After the boy has been on it for several weeks, I'll try to remember to post my observations.

In case anyone would like to check into it, this is where I got it:

There have been some attempts and research into using interferon (made from bovine colostrum) to 'treat' or delay the effects of FIP in cats, as it boosts the immune system. There is still no proven case of it working, though. I do not think it can do any harm and it is possible to buy it in human or animal grade. It may help in herpes too, anything that improves the immune system is a benefit.
