I have another post about this topic from yesterday, with pictures. Feral kitty had a broken tooth; it abscessed, I had the vet pull the tooth from the lower jaw and I gave her antibiotics (baytril) for 6 days which was a CHALLENGE because she is a feral kitty. This was about 3 weeks ago. Well, the infection came back. I got antibiotics from the vet, could not get them into her last night, and late last night I saw a new BIG blood spot on her chin which is still there today, and I think the abscess broke thru her lower jaw.  I did get antibiotics into her this morning, but it was difficult - she is hiding from me.  My husband and I are going to clear out her little room from lumber etc so I can catch her once a day, but at least she does still like to be petted if she thinks I can't grab her. I'm temporarily a snake, though.  (nah, I kinda like snakes).  I only spoke with vet tech with secondhand infor from the vet, and she said the vet said hard to tell from pix, but could be cancer or just infection and either treat and see what happens or bring her in. He would sedate her and he would look closer to see what happened & take sample to look for cancer.  I already had a cat with that and mouth cancer can't be treated.

So I'm going with infection, because she can recover from that, and given she had a  tooth that was actually broken, it would be a heck of a coincidence if it's cancer .

Is it better that the abscess drained? It is horribly upsetting.  I would have thought that the vet would have gotten that abscess open and cleaned out but maybe complications do happen.   Hey, thanks for any advice or experiences. I get it that I have to wait and see.

That really doesn't sound good.  I know with other abscesses it is good for them to open and drain then heal from the inside out but I don't know about this.

Tx for the answer. I gave her the 3rd dose of antibiotic this morning. She is afraid of me, although tonight she did purr and let me pet her quite awhile. I had to eliminate all her hiding places, which was quite a lot of work.  She'll probably figure out soon that she is only going to get medicine in the morning.  She mewed quick tonight and her mouth tissue didn't look real pink, but the lighting isn't good in that building and I am color blind and you know, the alternative is cancer, which is not treatable. So I am sure hoping things will be ok with her.

I would think she feels better with the abscess burst.  That was a lot of pressure she had before it burst.  It had to be painful.  Maybe the vet should do a culture of the wound to see what kind of bacteria she has.
