Please help me. :( Happy is normally a very active cat but lately he has been very lethargic. He still eats, drinks, and uses his litter box. My mom thinks he's fine, she just thinks he fell from a high height and hurt his legs. My uncle thinks he got stung by a wasp or a spider. I don't know if that's true, but can Happy survive that? The only time he walks is if I come in the room, or to get up to eat, drink, and use the litter box. My dad thinks he has a fever. He purrs a lot but I know that cats can purr just to comfort themselves when they are sick. He's a two month old male gray kitten. Oh, and my mom also thinks it could be a kitten growing. He never meows in pain. He still kneads. But lately he just sits next to me and sleeps. My dad's taking off work early tomorrow, so we can take him to the vet. Normally I go to bed at 2:00 AM but tonight I want to go to bed earlier so I can get up early, but I can't sleep worrying about Happy all night!! I hate nightmares. Especially when they are about Happy. :((( I don't want to end this thread without providing too little details, so here's some more.

- Whenever I bring out his toys he just watches them

- I haven't seen any personality changes, other than the fact that he has gone from super active - to totally lethargic

- Running is his passion, now that he can do it, he seems so depressed.

- I just had the thought that something maybe upsetting him.

- He eats Kitten Chow from Purina.

- I use FreshStep litter, and clean his litter box everyday.

- I give him fresh water everyday

- Sometimes I offer him treats, and he still takes them.

- My mom says that if he still eats, drinks, and uses his litter box he is ok. She thinks this because I had a guinea pig who stopped eating and drinking and she was sick.

- He still shows affection to everyone in my family

- Whenever I walk into a room he meows, runs up to me, and rubs himself all over me. He still does the same.

- He walks very slowly

- I think he is still too young to go outside on his own, but as a special treat we'll go on walks together or I'll let him explore outside under my supervision. So basically he is an indoor/outdoor kitty.

- I adopted him from a shelter

OK, I know that was very long but please read it all and try to reply ASAP!! Thanks. x

P.S, if you have any questions, ask me!! I'll also reply ASAP!!

Oops, I meant, "Now that he can't run, he seems so depressed." Sorry.

First of all it is a very good thing you came to ask for help and advice.

Your mom is mistaken, your kitten is sick.

The first thing I want to ask is, if he has been vaccinated. You NEVER want to allow your kitten outside until it has had at LEAST 2 vaccines in a row, 3-4 weeks apart. Otherwise, there are sooo many big bad viruses out there that will take a kitten down fast.

Cats do not cry out if they are sick, they show signs like what you are seeing.

If an 8 week old kitten suddenly won't play or run, something is definitely wrong.

I am so happy you will get him to the vet tmrw.

Meanwhile what you can do to help him is to get some water in him.

You will do this using an eye dropper or a syringe (no needle of course) and slowly squirt small amts at a time into his cheek area, NOT down his throat or he will choke.

If this is not something you can do, try offering tuna juice. The water will help with his dehydration, because he is dehydrated, that is what causes lethargy in young kittens, and they have so little fluid in their bodies already it goes away just by skipping drinking water, or not drinking the usual amt.

If his ear tips feel warm rather than slightly cool he will have a fever, your dad is correct.

Catwoman707 is absolutely right and I second all her advice. When you go to the vet make sure you write down in advance all the symptoms he is showing, just like the list you have written here. It is so easy to forget things in the atmosphere of the vet office and everything you can say will help find out what is wrong.

Thanks everyone.
We took him to the vet and he has a fever. The vet gave us some antibiotics to help out for the next week. He checked for fleas and found some flea droppings but didn't find any fleas. He told us that he didn't recommend the flea medication we use so we bought a new one. Unfortunately we can't use the medication until after he feels better. And in September he's getting his rabies shot and some other vaccines. Thanks for helping me guys. :)

Thanks! His fever went down a bit, he seems a lot better! He walks around a bit too. He seems to be recovering quickly, and healthily.
He still chills out a lot and sleeps a lot but that's what is required for recovering from a sickness.
