Hello,

My cat has a vet appt tomorrow to get some urine and then do a urine culture and sensitivity.  Last week a urine sample was collected and a urinalysis was done showing greater than 100 cocci and protein.  So bringing her in tomorrow to collect another sample so they can do the urine culture and sensitivity to confirm UTI.

My question is....since we're looking at a strong possibility of UTI here~~can I give her D-Mannose tonight to get her going on it or will that affect the culture?

Thanks!

D-mannose is a type of sugar. I don't know if it will affect the C&S so I would ask the vet to be sure before administering. D-mannose is particularly effective against antibiotic resistant e.coli. Not sure how well it works against other bacteria. Here's one source on its use. http://www.vetinfo.com/d-mannose-for-cats.html

Thanks for the response.  I did end up waiting and not giving the D-mannose last night.

Vet appt today and now we have her on a course of Clavamox...question now though is can I give her the D-Mannose while she is taking the Clavamox or will the D-mannose effect the clavamox?

Thanks!
