Hello everyone!

I am looking for some advise.

As it's said in the title my cat's tail just broke and i am really worried, what should i do?

I was walking fast and she tangled in my feet and i accidentally broke her tail somewhere in the middle of it,

she doesn't appear to be in pain and when i examined her tail she was not too annoyed.

The tail appears to be a bit bent and she won't move the end of it after the bent part (i could feel

the bone move at the broken part).

Will i have to amputate her tail?

Should i take her to the vet immediatelly or wait and

see how it goes? Is it possible for the tail to heal on it's own?

Is there anything i can do to help the tail heal without going to the vet?

Thank you for your time and advice in advance :)

Do you have a credit card, or have you looked into things like CareCredit? If you can call up nearby vets and ask to work something out (like explaining the situation and your cat's condition, but that you don't get your next pay until X day) some clinics will be willing to work with you as long as you honour the timeline.

When it comes to injuries and potential bone displacements or breaks, it's better to be safe than sorry. If bones aren't set in the right place, they can heal improperly and the tail can drag, or nerve damage can prevent the cat from having full control of the tail (which is bad if it ends up getting in the way when she tries to use the litter box and such) and of course, they could also be in pain. As we all know, cats and other animals are experts at hiding pain and discomfort. I don't know how frequently tails get amputated, but I assume if it's too difficult to keep the tail clean and safe, it's better to have it out of the way.

Hopefully others who may have dealt with similar injuries will be around soon to offer more information. Best of luck.

IMO determine whether or not there's nerve damage as it will dictate the path you take. My Sr. Main Coon has had a broken tail for most of his life but no nerve damage so he was able to keep moving it around and out of the way when needed.
