We just got him today at the shelter. He's 4 years old. He immediately starting eating his kibble food and then drinking water. But he sat a long long time and drank and drank and drank. He seems to be a snacker and has taken cat naps and eaten and drank all day. But he drinks ALOT and a long time each time. He has used the litter box and peed once but not alot or anything that would seem unusual. Should I worry about how much he drinks? It just seems like alot.

Hi,

As cats vary, so do their drinking water intake.

I've seen cats drink all day long, yet they always have, even as kittens.

Or cats drink alot who have been thoroughly checked out and are completely healthy/normal.

It might also be that he is a bit dried out and once he catches his body up with water, he will adjust and not seem so excessive with it :)

If you ever see any other signs that something could be brewing though, then it's always a good thing to have him checked out. It gives the vet a chance to become familiar with him as well. Know his history, etc.
