After being sick 5 days ago my cat wont eat now.He hovers around for food but wont or cant eat it he trys but drops it from his mouth,I throw chew sticks down the stairs for him as usual and he eats them so it cant be his teeth, mouth or jaws.I changed his food, offered snacks while all the time leaving fresh normal food down for him,but nothing beside the chew sticks.I know this thread is the same as the other one but there are no up to date answers, can someone help?

After Mr. Grimsby had a tooth pulled a couple of months ago, he came home and immediately tried to chomp down on a Royal Canin Oral Sensitive kibble - which is designed to clean the teeth and is quite hard. I imagine that it hurt a lot! He wouldn't eat for a while after that, so I started mixing a lot of lukewarm water into his canned food and giving it orally through a large syringe. He finally got back to eating (I think once the stitches fell out and his mouth healed up), but at least I could keep him hydrated and fed while he was off his food.

Perhaps you could try something like that with your cat, in the short term. In the longer term, have you taken him to the vet to see if there is something physically bothering him?

Best regards,

Thanks,I can only take him to the P.D.S.A  due to lack of money.I never intended to get a cat but found him dying in the street as a kitten, never used to like cats until now so I have never looked after one before, after getting him sorted at the vets 3yrs ago he has been great.I cant take him to the vets till next week as thats the next appointments time for the clinic, but if he can eat chew sticks surely his teeth are ok for general eating?
