Thanks for the support, everybody.  Black Kitty is one week post-neutering, and I have to admit, his butt looks wonderful now. LOL!

For the first time in his life, he was forced to stay indoors all week, and he really did well.  I opened a few blinds so he could look out some windows whenever I was gone, and I haven't found any evidence of evil cat destruction anywhere in the house.  I am a little disappointed that I can't seem to find any toy that he likes.  I've tried several but he just looks at me with that bored look.

I let him outside today for the first time, and he went straight under the house and stayed there.  He had a few hours of freedom (which he slept through), but he's back inside now and it's time to watch some TV.

My KiKi angel must be just SO mad that her house has been invaded.

Now my neighbor has acquired a black kitten that showed up out of nowhere on Thanksgiving Day.  She says she didn't want to keep it, but I went over to visit today, and that little kitty loves her to pieces!  She said it's a female, and it's obviously still a baby.  It could be Black Kitty's youngun for all we know.  They look very much alike, except the kitten might be longer-haired.  My neighbor said she did see another big black cat around, so who knows?

Black Kitty is transformed and looks absolutly stunning!
What a magic outcome.  And now your neighbour looks to be being adopted too!  Yey!  The long hair kitten looks very sweet.  It would be hard to resist that little one.

I think Kiki Angel will be happy that a hole in your heart is being filled, how could she want you to be sad?

What a fantastic update! And what a handsome devil he is!!

So great to hear, really.

Something I'd like to tell you about FeLV.

Since honestly, he doesn't show signs of having it, he may not actually get it............I know, what am I talking about right?!

I will explain in case your vet did not.

Adult cats who contract the virus, well the fact is, most of them can work it through their system and fight it off. During this period he WILL test positive, but later on he will test negative.

If I were you I would get him retested in another 4 months. That will allow him enough time to have either gotten rid of it, or will confirm that he does have it.

He doesn't look like an felv positive cat at all. However, if he was very recently infected before he was tested, this would also explain why he isn't showing the illness.

So either way, whether he is able to rid himself of the virus, or if he is not and very recently became infected and was unable to fight it off, it was pretty recent or he would not look as good as he does.

My guess? This is only my personal opinion, but it is what I was saying, that he is working it through his system and will come out clean of it.

Only a small percentage of cats who contract it actually get the full blown permanent virus.

Good news? Hopefully!

What a great story. I agree with catwoman-- just because he tested positive for FeLV doesn't mean he has the disease or will get the disease full blown. There are sometimes false positives with this test, and sometimes cats can have a trace of it and then fight it off. I'm so happy that you've given this cat a chance at having a great life! Too many people would have just euthanized him. It sounds as though he has settled in as an indoor cat. As far as toys are concerned, have you tried a wand toy? They are great interactive toys, and few cats can resist playing with them. I got even my totally feral outdoor cat to play a bit with me with one over the summer. Also, cats love catnip toys. When I took in a semi-feral several years ago, it took him a few months to remember the concept of how to play with toys because it had been a long time since someone took care of him and played with him. It may take your little guy a while, too.

I think your Kiki angel sent this kitty to you to care for him, and is smiling down at both of you.

AAwww... Black Kitty has the look of a very healthy boy.  He is so lucky to have found you.

I do hope your next door neighbour decides to keep the little kitten.. it looks like the kitten is quite keen!

Keep us posted on how everything is going.

My KiKi angel must be just SO mad that her house has been invaded.

You were just joking, right? I believe that if Kiki's spirit is still present around you now or in the afterlife, she is not harboring any ill feelings towards you or Black Kitty.

I guess I was just trying to offer you some comfort and reassurance that your efforts with Black Kitty is not in any way a betrayal of the love you had for Kiki.

No, I wasn't joking at all, but I like the way you think better, so I'll go with that.  KiKi is still very much with me....just not physically.

Belated Merry Christmas to everyone from me and Black Kitty.  I really needed him this past week, and he has turned into an awesome kitty friend.  He has discovered the joy of running through the house at full speed in the middle of the night, and he's been playing with several toys he got for Christmas.  I had put away the dreaded snake on a stick thing that he only hissed at, but he took it down from the bookcase three nights in a row, tortured it, and left it on the floor at the foot of my bed.  A friend says he is killing it in order to save me.

What a magic update @Alphagrrl.  It sounds to me like Black Kitty feels settled and safe, and is now bringing you his prey as gifts so you know what a wonderful hunter he is.
Either that or he has been trying to wake you up with that snake toy so you would play with him and you slept through it.

Looks like he enjoyed guarding your presents, and I hope he had fun helping you unwrap a few as well.  I am sure you thoroughly spoiled him and made the most of his company.  These first Christmases are hard but having another friend to share them with can be a great healer.

Gosh what a beautiful cat.  I can't believe people really believe that rubbish about black cats, but I know they do because our shelter has to reduce the fee on them to get them adopted.

A word about cat toys.  I had one terrible experiences with a cat toy after it came off the string fell off (or they tore them off) and one of the kittens swallowed it.  Or, in the case of dental floss, after she dug it out of the trash and ate it (luckily she thew up some and pooped out the rest.)

This is such a nice story, thanks for sharing, especially the pics.  :)

G'day Alphagrrl.

That was a really nice read. What is it about feral Toms? In one of your posts you mentioned that you were having trouble finding a suitable toys for Black Kitty.

My little mate, just didn't like the toys found in supermarkets or toy stores. I guess being a feral he was use to live game, but I soon discovered that he loved playing with feathers. The membrane that runs a feathers length allows you to tap it against stuff to get the cats attention.  A crows tail feather works well. Fortunately we have emu's in Australia, so its not that hard to get hold of a emu feather. That may sound crazy, but I soon discovered that Gem use to love to jump and pounce onto the feather. The problem was it was usually where I was holding it, so I often came away from our play time with many claw indents on my finger tips, that's why I recommend long feathers. lol

I hope this helps ya out.

@Gemery  your post brings to mind DaBird and why it works so well for many people - the cat goes crazy but your fingers and hands are no where near the feathers.
It might be expensive but it does get a lot of cats going- and the more natural feather swishing noise just might catch Black Kitty's attention.
With the string you do need to keep it firmly locked away though.  Mouse will paw his out from under the sofa if I'm not careful to push it far enough back.
