Hi everyone,
It has been just 3 days since I lost my beloved Max and one of my other cats has been sick this week as well. My mind is still reeling from losing my boy and I am not sure I can think clearly enough to decide what needs to be done for my girl.
A little background: on Monday I took my Lady (about 7-8 yrs old - was a rescue so we're not exactly sure) into the vet because she was vomiting over and over. The did bloods and an X-ray and found that her intestines were full of gas and her lipase levels were a bit elevated. They said the lipase could indicate a pancreas issue, but sometimes it does get elevated if a cat has gastric inflammation too. The vet prescribed famotidine to settle her stomach, a bland diet for a couple of days, and sent her home. Lady was also found to have an overactive thyroid 2 weeks prior to this and has been on meds for that. It was too soon to repeat the thyroid check, but the vet cut her thyroid meds in half in case they are upsetting her stomach.
Her current symptoms: Since then, she has still been vomiting once or twice a day, usually in the early morning hours, nowhere near her feeding times. It is mostly liquid, a bit of mucous, and a bit of digested food. She also has not passed any stool since Monday, despite being back on her regular food for two days and keeping it down just fine. She seems to have a normal appetite, is drinking water, and urinating normally. I called the vet yesterday to see if the ongoing vomiting is of concern and their response is always, "well, bring her in so we can check her out again, do more X-rays, etc"
The thought of going back to the vet so soon after losing Max is very stressful for me, but I would get past that if Lady really needs to go. My other hesitation is that she gets super stressed out and upset by the vet experience - from the car ride (and we are about 20-25 minutes away from the nearest vet) to being handled and everything by the staff. She begins to growl and hiss and then they may want to sedate her if she doesn't allow them to do what they need to do. I try to avoid that, as Lady also has a history of a medium grade heart murmur.
Any insights on her symptoms or anything else I might try at home to help her? Do you think her condition is severe enough to warrant another trip to the vet's office?
I so appreciate any advice or feedback you may have - thank you.
