Hello everyone,

Please stick with me to get the full story. Two weeks ago my cat was leaving little droplets all over the apartment. He even sprayed the door once. He's 8 years old and had never sprayed previously as a behavioral problem. I brought him to the vet a few times to get different tests done such as urine, etc. No blood sample yet. The vet thought it was a UTI, but after the sample was collected, she said that wasn't it. He was given an antibiotic and after some time got better. He was his old self from around Monday night through today in the afternoon.

This afternoon he started leaving the droplets again, this time with a faded pinkish/red hue. I know it's blood. I brought him back in and they took x-rays to see if there might be stones or other issues. His results shown no stones, however they did notice something about his digestive/gas possibly being obstructed by something, but they weren't sure as it could just be food. He was given medication called albon suspension that they gave him already for the night and sent us home. Apparently he has some bacteria in his stool from the swipe they took. They will call in the morning to see if he's alright. Note that this vet is not 24/7 and is now closed.

So I get home and he seems okay, but then all of a sudden we notice more blood spots. I pick him up so my wife can clean his bottom and she notices the blood coming from his penis. He's still licking his crotch often and is in obvious discomfort. He's not meowing or howling, he just can't seem to sit still and be his old self. I'm really scared here.

I don't know if I should go to a clinic or wait until morning for the vet to check in and see what's going on. They already have him scheduled for a 2pm appointment just in case I need to bring him back.

I mean, I have the professional opinion, but I hate to see him like this. :(

I want to add that he also won't sit normally now. He sits in his large carrier in the position cats are in to clean their crotch/legs.

This is an emergency ! Do not wait and take your cat to an E-vet immediately. He could be blocking and tomorrow may be too late. So sorry for you and your boy. He needs immediate medical attention. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

This sounds like he may be blocking and that is super serious and can be very painful and dangerous! Please get him to a vet!

My cat went through this same thing back in December and if he is blocked they need to help him asap!

Sending good thoughts your way!

I don't get how it can be a blockage if he peed fine all this morning though. :( The x-rays from just a little while ago shown his bladder was empty.

I hope that you have taken in your cat by now. We cannot diagnose why your cat is bleeding from his penis as we are not vet's but I will say that he is in distress and needs immediate vet care. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for your cat.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to provide an update.

After I posted here I brought my cat (Minou) to a different vet that was suggested by a friend for a second opinion on the issue. This vet found that Minou indeed had cystitis, although his was stress related. He did not have a full bladder, makes sense since he was dripping and spraying all over the apartment. The vet gave him an antibiotic and switched him to a UTI/stress prescription dry food.

The next day my wife and I cleaned the entire apartment very thoroughly. It smelled awful. After a second thorough cleaning the next day the urine smell was gone and thankfully Minou was no longer dripping or spraying. He wasn't leaving large clumps of urine in his box yet, just small ones, and he wasn't pooping. However, by the fourth day he was back to normal and has been ever since.

We asked the vet if our friends with cats, one of which that came over when the issue seemed to surface, could cause the problem. He said he doubted it unless the person was new, which he wasn't. We had two friends come over that Minou doesn't see as often and he was friendly as usual with no issues. Thankfully, that wasn't the case! We're still unsure what exactly may have caused his stress related UTI for certain, but if I had to guess it probably has to do with my stress of dealing with my mother dying from dementia.

In any case, thanks to those that responded.

I have a kitt with chronic cystitis, but she's female so I don't have to worry so much about blackage, thankfully. But one thing I've found really helps with cystitis is water intake. You want him to get as much water as possible to wash the nasties out of his bladder. Feeding canned food (with a little water added for extra assurance) helps, and encouraging water drinking as much as possible. Hope he keeps feeling better!
