I was talking to my vet (first visit) about what foods she should eat, and she suggested Purina or Iams... "It doesn't need to be anything fancy"

And also dry kibble only because "it packs more goodness into the little kibbles"

When I asked her about it causes dehydration and urine crystals, she simply said "put water bowls down near her litter boxes" and that canned food is okay as a treat if it makes me feel good to give it to her....

Should I listen to my vet or keep doing it how we are?

Right now she's on bb wilderness kitten dry down to free feed (until she's older) and canned food several times a day.

Also found out our kitten is underweight. We've had her for 3 weeks, and the vet said by her size she's only 4-6 weeks old... which I think is impossible because when we got her she had her eyes open, they weren't blue, eating food well...

Idk.

Most vets, unless they take a special interest in nutrition, are not terribly knowledgeable about nutrition, and especially for cats. Also, putting water bowls near the litterboxes is a bad idea because cats don't like to eat/drink where they potty :/. Keep doing what you're doing!

How big is your kitty now? Did you get a weight while at the vet?

1.6 lbs! Tiny little thing.

She was too little for her shots, but they cleaned her ears, gave me mite medicine for them, and dewormed her for ringworms.  The vet said next time they'll deworm her again for ringworms and deworm her for tape worms, and she'll get her vaccinations.  She also tested negative for the feline leukemia and the feline AIDS... which I was worried about because the people we got her from had way too many cats... and just let them all breed. :(

He probably said "roundworms", since ringworm is actually a fungal skin infection. Sounds like the little one has a dedicated parent in you!

Hahaha yes definitely roundworms!!! Typo on my part xD

I was wondering why I couldn't figure out why it felt so weird to put an s at the end of ringworm... Lol.

It's been a stressful couple of weeks!
