Hey all! Im new to posting on the boards but have been reading them for a year. I was hoping someone has had some experience in making a balanced home diet and also giving a little raw. Iv been searching for a well balanced diet for ages and am just so unsure and scared to make the wrong decision as these fluffy minions mean everything to me. Heres the kicker. One of my males has FLUTD and has blocked twice in the past year which is why I want to control the diet myself, that and I have 3 more (technically 4 but his mother is missing for a month :(   )  and feeding just canned is mighty pricey. I appreciate any and all advice

Have you narrowed down the form of raw feeding you're most interested in? That may help us answer your question(s).
I fed Ritz prey model raw, though I started out feeding commercial raw.
Ritz (female) has a somewhat related condition, stress induced UTIs. She developed this twice around the same time I transitioned her to raw. I guess my point is, the best raw or other kind of diet, may not completely prevent future blockages. It can help certainly, in my opinion.
I avoid all fish, even sardines. Perhaps unnecessarily so. I do very occasionally give her a small amount of krill fish oil.
L-methonine is a natural acidifier found in meat. Turkey breast has the highly concentration of l-methonine, so I feed her 100% dehydrated turkey breast treats. When on sale I also give her turkey breast and turkey thigh.
I do not know if cooking meat significantly decreases l-methonine.

They like the Instinct freeze dried raw food but it would be expensive to keep all of em on it. I think what Im most interested in would be a homemade turkey food that would be balanced that I could feed with a little traditional wet food lol. Get them use to no crunchies before diving into raw I think.

You might check out this thread for recipe ideas.
Personally I hate to cook, so that's why I chose prey model raw.

I think Bita was looking for raw recipes. :)

Recipes

One very easy option is to start with meat or meat and organs (whether ground or chunks) and add a commercially available premix of nutritional supplements that will make the food nutritionally balanced.

Introduction to making your own food: You can actually make your own cat food? Yes! You can! by Anne Jablonski of CatNutrition.org

Ground: Making Cat Food by Dr. Lisa Pierson at CatInfo.org (also available in French)

Ground: Recipes with and without real bones at CatNutrition.org (pictorial available; translated into Turkish, Italian, "traditional Chinese", Korean, French, and Russian).

Ground: TCS raw recipes & discussion, including a link to nutritionally balanced recipes (with analysis by mschauer)

PMR: A sample Prey Model Raw weekly menu (PDF) at CatCentric.org

Nutritional Supplements (Premixes)

Note: some are designed to make just meat complete; others require liver and/or a source of calcium to make the recipes balanced & complete. For most, a source of fiber is optional (which can be important for IBD kitties or as a method to lower fat for specific medical reasons). Please ensure you purchase the correct supplement for the recipe you intend to use.

Alnutrin http://www.knowwhatyoufeed.com/
Better-in-the-raw for Cats http://www.knowbetterpetfood.com/cat_food_better_in_the_raw (meant only for ground, not a "sprinkle on" supplement)
Call of the Wild http://www.wysong.net/products/cotw-dog-cat-supplement.php
Warning: Call of the Wild by Wysong may have iodine levels that are too high. Please see http://www.thecatsite.com/t/269085/warning-call-of-the-wild-high-in-iodine
TCfeline (Canada) http://tcfeline.com/ The site also has an extensive library of informational articles.
TCfeline USA http://tcfeline.com/tcfeline-usa/
TCPremix EUROPE: http://tcfeline.com/tcpremix-europe/

Alnutrin has recipes and an online calculator enabling you to create and balance your own homemade food.

....

A number of people use meat and liver they purchase and use it with Alnutrin - very easy to do! If you click on this link, http://www.thecatsite.com/t/272287/raw-recipe-thread I think mschauer posted a number of recipes that use Alnutrin with eggshell. You wouldn't have to stick to just turkey; you could use any protein with any liver. Many cats love pork, and it's typically a rather "novel" protein for them. It can be made with chicken, duck or turkey liver if you can't source pork liver - the meat doesn't have to match the liver.

Or you can invest in a grinder, and follow the recipe at CatNutrition.org or Dr. Pierson's recipe at CatInfo.org.

All have been used with excellent kitty health resulting. :)

LDG Thank you! Ill be researching all of these thoroughly. I have seen your posts on other threads and Im so thrilled that you have improved the health of all your babies! Do you follow any of these diets listed? I know you have a flutd baby amoung others and I was able to convince my hubby to let me do this (after more research and learning) because of one of your posts stating that their ph and tests come back great :)
