Hi,

First of all, thank you for reading. This is going to be a long one.

My 15 and half year old female cat, Juju got lost one night, when we found her the next day,( she's been lost for 14 hours at that point ) she was stuck in a drain, her legs submerged in drain water, just a street away from home. We took her home, then after a few hours, I realised that she has gone blind and her back legs were quite weak. It was also raining heavily that night.

She's an outdoor/indoor cat. She can usually find her way home but she didn't come home that night because I believe she went blind and couldn't see. Right before she went missing, she also got into a fight with a stray cat, she sustained no injury from the fight.

Prior to that, she's also lost her appetite slightly but nothing serious, she was still eating but just not as much. I put that down to my husband going away and she was sad. They are very close.

I took her to the vet the next day and all her blood test were within the normal range.
Vet suspected hypothermia from being out in the cold the whole night or toxoplasmosis which she got medication for. She was also put on a drip for a few days. The vet was very close to where I lived so I opted for day hospitalisation instead of night so she would at least get to come home. After a few days of prednisolone, clindamycin and cyproheptadine, she got better. She was blind for a week and I was really worried because the vet said that if Juju has been blind for 5 days, she probably wouldn't get her sight back, but she did! When she was blind, she wouldn't really eat and she didn't know where her litterbox was and would pee wherever she wanted. I don't know how much she can see now but she can find her little box and food. She also reacts when I wave and can seem to see things that I put on the floor.

That was 2 weeks ago.

Since then she has been in and out of day hospitalisation. She goes between eating alot and not eating. Her condition improves when she goes to the vet for her drip but sometimes get worse again after a few days of not going to the vet.

She's diagnosed with pancreatitis, ultrasound also shows a dark mass in her intestines that could be cancer but that cannot be comfirmed. I don't really want to get her tested due to her age.

Today when she came back from day hospital at the vets ( she had iv fluid for 8 hours today ) she couldn't really open her mouth and is slightly drooling. I was told that it could be neurological. I'm really confused as to what's happening to my cat. Vet has suggested a feeding tube or to euthanise her.

It's just too much to sink in. She seem to have a lot of problems but nothing is really comfirmed. She's feeling very dull but I think she wants to live still. She still grooms a little bit when she can and she's interested in food most of the time, even when she doesn't want to eat, she gets excited when I open a new can of cat food. She loves it when I brush her fur still. She also comes when I call out to her but it takes a longer time now.

Other medication that she's been on : Tramadol, ranintidine, microlax.

My question is, do i put my cat on a feeding tube? I know that this will give her a chance but she's always been a very difficult cat and really impossible to pill. I want to do what's best for her. I don't want to cause her pain and discomfort by putting a feeding tube on her only to have her die in a week or two with a feeding tube on her.

Thank you in advance.

I'm sorry you and your cat are going through this. Hopefully someone with some knowledge similar to your situation will be online shortly.

If you're cat does survive this ordeal, there are at least 2 members who have experience with blind cats.

thank you for the reply. She can see a little now. Some days she gets better and I have a glimmer of hope that she's getting better and on the bad days, she looks like she about to die. It's really confusing.
